How The 2015 WWE Royal Rumble Prop Bets Fared

With the 2015 WWE Royal Rumble now in the rear-view, I thought I would go through the results of the battle royal and see how bettors fared in the prop bet markets.

This past weekend, three betting companies were offering its customers the opportunity to place side wagers on the events that happened within the match itself. For example, wrestling fans could wager on the participant who eliminated the most opponents all the way to guessing the winning wrestler's entrance number.

Roman Reigns Specific Markets

With Roman Reigns the outright favourite to win the match, two sportsbooks - 5Dimes.com and Betfair.com - opened a book on the former Shield member's elimination score in the bout.

5Dimes set the line as betting on Reigns scoring over or under 7.5 eliminations while Betfair asked 'Will Roman Reigns eliminate 8 or more?' and gave the bettor the option to punt on yes or no. Both options evidently meant the same thing.

Reigns threw six rivals out during the match, so punters who had taken the under at 5Dimes or 'No' with Betfair would have been paid out as winners.

The 5Dimes Sportsbook also offered up Roman Reigns' elimination score versus any other wrestler. In this match, customers had to wager on Reigns having at least one more elimination more than his rivals. With Reigns, Bray Wyatt and Rusev all tied with 6, the winning selection in this market was 'Highest other competitor eliminations'. As the sportsbook had given that option a half-person handicap over Reigns to eliminate any ties.

Other Most Elimination Markets

PaddyPower.com and Betfair also set up books where people could bet on the wrestler who eliminated the most wrestlers on the evening. However, their markets had a list of names for the punter to choose from. As noted: Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns and Rusev were given six eliminations apiece, so I am of the belief that this market would have been settled as void. I have asked for clarification on this, but I am about 99.5% confident the bets would have been cancelled.

Most RKOs

Another over and under bet. This one was offered by Betfair and set the line at 2.5. Customers had to bet whether there were more or less RKOs delivered on the night.
I have asked for clarification, but with no Randy Orton on the show, I'm assuming the under was paid out.

Time Specific Markets

Betfair offered two markets where customers could bet on the amount of time the longest-serving entrant will be in the match.
The first option was a set line where punters could bet over or under 49.5 minutes. Market two gave three choices: under 48 minutes, between 48 and 51 minutes or over 51 minutes.
Bray Wyatt lasted a little less than 47 minutes. so the under would have paid out in both markets.

Winning Number

Paddy Power opened a book on the number that the eventual winner came out in. Roman Reigns' number 19 paid out 16/1 to those that had bet on that number on Sunday afternoon. Proving the early bird does get the worm, punters who took 19 when the odds opened would have been quids in with 50/1 odds.

And there we have it for another year. I expect we'll see a few prop bets on offer in the build-up to WrestleMania XXXI. I doubt we'll see anything as in-depth as the invitations to treat we were afforded this past weekend.
