WWE Battleground 2016 Betting : Backing Rollins & Reigns

I have just finished reading this week's issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and thought I'd share a few things that I read in it.

Firstly, Dave Meltzer confirmed that - before Brock Lesnar was popped by USADA - the plan was for him to go number one in the draft followed by Dean Ambrose.

But, that's not really the reason why I have been compelled to publish this post. The two world title scenario was brought up later in the article.

As noted in this morning's 5Dimes update, there have been reports that WWE isn't planning to create a second world title until later in the summer. I first heard this from Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, but expanded on it today by noting that it would make more sense for either Seth Rollins or Roman Reigns to win the WWE Title at Battleground without pinning or submitting Dean Ambrose. In the issue, Meltzer once again brought up the original plan of Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns meeting at SummerSlam for the WWE Title and John Cena squaring off against AJ Styles for a new championship. Further into the article, when writing about the individual world champions by late summer, he suggests that if they're still going with that plan, 'Rollins or Reigns will win the title at Battleground'.

As I wrote earlier today before reading the newsletter, if Rollins loses to Reigns - or vice versa - it'll give Dean Ambrose and Smackdown an excuse to introduce a new championship because he will be protected by not taking the fall in the match. Another thing that could play into the storyline is the former champion's rematch clause cannot be executed because he'll be on an opposing brand post-Battleground.

I don't know which of the two will reclaim the title on Sunday, if this is how it ends. Reigns was pinned by Rollins last month, Rollins has lost to Ambrose this week. I've simply taken both options.

I've backed Seth Rollins at 5/2 with Coral.co.uk and taken the 11/2 on Roman Reigns that can be found at Betfair.com.

It isn't a guaranteed winner as Dean Ambrose could be victorious and the bets will lose. There could be voided wagers if there is a double pin or, if they try to build on Monday's controversy: a treble pin. If that happens, you read it here first. If it doesn't forget - what I wrote.

This is what would happen if you placed 2 on Rollins and 2 on Reigns at the odds I quoted:

Ambrose Wins: Lose Stakes
Rollins Wins: 3 Point Profit
Reigns Wins: 9 Point Profit
More than 1 winner: Stake should be refunded following a void result

Coral's WWE odds are found under 'TV Specials' on the sportsbook menu at Coral.co.uk

Betfair's Battleground markets are under 'Special Bets' at Betfair.com.
