Wrestling Observer Backlash 2017 Best Match Result

This past weekend, the oddsmakers from Kambi released a market where customers could wager on the match they believed would end up getting the most stars in Dave Meltzer's Backlash review in this week's issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. This issue has now been published and the winning match, for bet settlement, has been determined.

The market opened with three options for customers - the US Championship match between Kevin Owens and AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura versus Dolph Ziggler or 'Any other' bout on the card.

Unsurprisingly, Kevin Owens .vs. AJ Styles was given the most stars in the review. Dave Meltzer rated it three and three quarters. The Nakamura versus Ziggler bout came one star short of tying it.

The US Championship match opened up as a 13/20 favourite. It was downhill from there. I made a few visits to the market across the weekend and the bets seemed to be going one way. At around 3pm on Sunday afternoon, I noticed it had moved into 1/2 then - later than that - it had fallen into 4/9.

This was the third time the oddsmakers had published a market for the Observer's star ratings after having released odds for WrestleMania 33 and, most recently, Payback 2017.
