AJ Styles Succeeds Jinder Mahal As WWE Champion

AJ Styles has just defeated Jinder Mahal to become WWE Champion during the Smackdown tapings from the Manchester Arena. The episode will air later on tonight.

AJ Styles Wins WWE Championship On November 7th 2017 Smackdown

The title win will see a number of WWE Championship specials that were available from the oddsmakers at Kambi settled.

In this evening's post, I'll go through the two 'Champion After Jinder Mahal' markets. The first was a special where you could bet on the time-frame when the Modern Day Maharaja would no longer be the titleholder. The second was a list of names where clients could have a punt on Mahal's successor.

Date Of Loss
This market was initially published in the days following Mahal's ascension following his victory over Randy Orton at WWE Backlash 2017. At the time they went live, there were seven options on the board beginning with 'Before SummerSlam 2017' all the way to 'On First Day After WrestleMania 34 Or Later'.

Date Jinder Mahal Loses WWE Championship Betting Odds For 2017

You can view how the betting went by clicking on the image above. The winning selection will end up being 'Between First Day After SummerSlam 2017, But Before Survivor Series'. The most opportune time to have backed this option would have been last week when WWE announced that AJ Styles' match against Rusev had been cancelled and, instead, the Phenomenal One would wrestle Jinder Mahal instead. Due to how close the selection was to closing (ahead of Survivor Series), the oddsmakers had pushed it out to 10/1.

Mahal's Successor
The 'Next To Win WWE Championship After Jinder Mahal' market was published at the same time as 'Date of Loss'. As is obvious, AJ Styles is the winning selection.

Odds For Jinder Mahal's Successor As WWE Champion (November 2017)

The betting can be viewed by clicking the image above. The price that stands initially stood out was when Styles drifted from 3/1 to 7/1. In a post published in June, I wrote the following:

Extract From WWELeaks.org Blog Post From July 1st 2017

At the time, Smackdown didn't have a depth of babyface challengers for Jinder Mahal. Randy Orton was still working with Mahal and I didn't think he would strap,  John Cena had yet to return (not that it mattered), Bobby Roode was still working for NXT, so this left Shinsuke Nakamura and Styles. I didn't expect Nakamura to move straight into a WWE Championship program, so thought Styles would succeed Randy Orton as the challenger to Mahal's title.

I lucked out because Nakamura was given the next feud with the champion. However, he was not given a run with the championship.

Another notable date for this market was July 30th because Styles jumped to a top price of 15/2 after spending most of the month at even money. He was soon backed into 4/1 yet still went out to 6/1 by August 11th.

I'm intrigued to see what becomes of Jinder Mahal after tonight. Styles will now replace the former WWE Champion as Brock Lesnar's opponent for the Survivor Series. The two-night WWE tour of India is in thirty-one days.

David, what's the best price you've seen for Shinsuke Nakamura to win the Royal Rumble?

    1. I still think it’ll be Mahal vs Cena.

    2. Sorry, I forgot to answer your question.

Nak was 20/1 with Paddy Power when the market opened in February.

  2. I have a feeling that Rematch will happen next on Raw in AJ Styles home Atlanta Georgia and Raw roster will cost him the title
