Bookie .vs. Blogger: Rumble 2018 Retrospective

As regular visitors to WWELeaks.org will know - in the months leading up to the 2018 WWE Royal Rumble, myself and a bookmaker ran a series of posts where we ranked our top five selections to win the battle royal. Now that the match is behind us, and we know who actually won it, it's worth taking a retrospective look to see how we both did.

You can see how our top fives changed from November 13th all the way to three days before the event in the table below.

Bookie .vs. Blogger Rumble 2018 Picks

The 2018 Royal Rumble winner, Shinsuke Nakamura, appeared in my top five in a few of the weeks where a Bookie .vs. Blogger post was published. However, I never once had him in the top of my list. He was removed from my list a couple of times due to the reports that the Fast Lane main event would include Nakamura in a fatal five-way for the WWE Championship. I felt that the WrestleMania main eventer wouldn't be challenging for the title a month beforehand.

The Bookie, despite also reading of the rumoured Fast Lane main event, stuck to his guns. Nakamura remained at the peak of his list from day one until moving the eventual winner down to second in the final post where we locked in our selections on January 24th.

For those keeping score at home, that is 1-0 to The Bookie.

We've been discussing other 'Bookie .vs. Blogger' ideas for future events. If you have any suggestions, we're welcome to seeing them. You can leave them in the comments section.

  1. Like to see you guys go head-to-head leading leading up to Money In The Bank

  2. I still find it bizarre the bookies had the winner from day 1 months ago. Well done bookies. I did not think that would be possible for the royal rumble since there are many different paths WWE can take it with each year.

  3. David learns a harsh lesson about the term "cards subject to change!"

In all seriousness, really enjoyed this feature. Looking forward to the next one!

    1. I've been teaching the 'Card Subject to Change' thing long before this. However, when a video is produced advertising something, it would have been foolish to brush it off.

  4. Hi Dave, haven't kept up to date with your blog since Rumble but was meaning to ask whether you got paid out on your Tye Dillinger bet at 25/1?

    1. That's harsh, since he was, technically, 'supposed' to be in the rumble.

      Unlucky dude

    2. Thanks.

Was a bad beat alright. Made me hate on KO and Zayn for the first time ever haha.

    3. Harsh but also they could have settled it as a loser so fair play to them. Great bet though, 25/1 this year, 1/10 last year. Its a gimmick which they can't stop sticking down our throats. I mean look what they did with the SD Live top ten :)
