Kurt Angle Mania 35 Opponent Betting Update For March 18th

The takeaway from this afternoon's visit is that Shelton Benjamin has shot up the board into second-favourite position. He was 14/1 at 3:30PM GMT yesterday and - as of 3:30PM today - is 9/2. I also noticed him at 12s when I browsed this morning.

I have a strong feeling why Benjamin's price has fallen this far.

On Saturday, Benjamin sent out a tweet stating that a WrestleMania match between he and Angle would be an 'instant classic' and urged people to 'make it happen'. Angle replied to this with an 'I'm Game!!!!'

A few news sites picked up on this. The one that caught my attention the most was the Mirror. It had an article published in the early hours of this morning based off those tweets alone. The tone was in absolutes which may have people - non fans included - who might think that Benjamin will be Angle's opponent.

As a result of the interest in Benjamin, the oddsmakers have moved the favourite - John Cena - out from 4/6 into 8/11. The Mirror mentioned Cena in the article, but wrote that a Cena .vs. Angle match doesn't look possible because a Cena .vs. Samoa Joe match 'seems increasingly likely' for WrestleMania.

If you've been following along, I'd think that a John Cena .vs. Samoa Joe match is now increasingly unlikely following last week's Smackdown, which saw Rey Mysterio pin Joe in a tag team match.

The entire list of names - along with their current odds - can be viewed below. There has been a new selection added in Matt Riddle (12/1). He too has used Twitter to convey his wish to be Angle's final opponent by writing 'The answer is simple Kurt and the answer is BRO this is what the fans want and deep down it's what you need! Riddle Vs Angle for the world'.

Angle is set to announce his opponent on tonight's edition of WWE Raw.

  1. It's funny because those tweets literally mean it isn't Benjamin. Clearly whomever it is, is a secret. They wouldn't just give it away like that aha

    1. Yep, but the more I am thinking about it, the more I am leading back to Corbin.

    2. BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if we do get Angle vs Benjamin on a Raw. This way they still kind of give that match to the people.

    3. Yeah it probably will be Corbin. If they was going to announce some legend they probably would have built it up more.

I'm really hoping Corbin comes out though, just for the arena to go dark, and Undertaker to tombstone/chokeslam him, and then stare down Kurt and then stare at wrestlemania sign.
