How Kambi's NJPW Power Struggle 2020 Observer Markets Were Settled

The current issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has Dave Meltzer's review of New Japan Pro Wrestling's Power Struggle event from November 7th.

With the issue released, and star ratings given for the bouts on the card, the bookmakers from Kambi have settled the Observer-themed markets that were available for the show. In this post, I'll take a look back at those markets and see how they were settled.

The most stars Meltzer gave out in his review of the show was four. Three matches on the card received that number of stars. The matches were Shingo Takagi's Never Openweight title win over Minoru Suzuki, the semi-main event which saw Jay White beat Kota Ibushi for the Wrestle Kingdom title match contract and Tetsuya Naito's successful defence of the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships over EVIL.

With two or more matches receiving the honours for the highest rated bouts, Kambi settled a prop bet - in which customers could gamble on whether or not there would be 'Joint Winners' for best match on the card - with 'Yes' winning.

As you can see in the image below, the 'Joint Winners' prop market listed the eventual winner at 8/5.

The next best match, behind the three winners, went to KENTA's win over Hiroshi Tanahashi. It received three-and-a-half stars from the reviewer.

Due to the gap between the top matches and the second-best being half a star, Kambi settled the 'Margin of Victory' market in favour of 'Yes' as the proposition asked whether or not there would be a difference of at least half a star between the top bouts and those that finished immediately after it.

The winning selection was 7/5.

With four stars being the highest amount given in the review of Power Struggle 2020, the winning selection  - in the 'Exact Star Rating of the Highest Rated Match' - was 'Under 4.25 Stars'.

The selection started out at 9/10, when the market was first published on October 30th. It was moved up to EVS within the first day and was then up to 5/4 on November 3rd. It remained at this price right through to the market's close.

Kota Ibushi .vs. Jay White was one of the bouts that was in a head-to-head special. Its opposition was the KENTA .vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi match.

We know the score of both matches. The winning selection was an 11/20 favourite to start off with, but was moved into 11/25 a day before the event.

The second head-to-head special had the NEVER Openweight Championship contest going up against the rest of the card.

With Takagi/Suzuki sharing the three-way tie of four stars, the winning selection in that market went to 'Same Star Rating'. It was a 17/10 outsider throughout.

The release of the star ratings for the matches on the card also meant that Kambi's traders were able to settle the over/under markets that were released for the show. The table below shows the lines, the stars and the results for the card.
