Closing Favourites For WWE WrestleMania Backlash

With Sky Bet and Kambi both having closed their markets for tonight's WWE WrestleMania Backlash, I thought I'd do something different and offer a more detailed look at who the closing favourites were for this month's PPV.

Here are the faves along with the notes I was able to collect in regards to how the betting markets were adjusted as the weeks, and especially hours, lead up to tonight's show.

Damian Priest
Sky Bet closed its market for the lumberjack match with Damian Priest a 1/7 favourite over The Miz (4/1). Those were the prices both selections were at when I first noticed the market had been created on Wednesday evening.

Kambi's market for the match closed with Priest at 1/3. His opponent was 2/1. It should be worth pointing out that Miz had started out at 14/5 when betting began yesterday.

Just like with Kambi, BetOnline and 5Dimes has also had moments when Miz's price has dipped.

Rhea Ripley
Kambi closed its WWE Raw Women's Championship market with Rhea Ripley as an 11/25 favourite to successfully retain her title.

The market was first published yesterday. The closing favourite was 11/20 to start with and was then at a shorter 1/2 this morning. The move into 11/25 came sometime before 5:10PM BST today.

Sky Bet's market was opened on May 6th with the champion at 1/2, Charlotte Flair at 5/2 and Asuka at 6/1. Within an hour, Flair's odds were lowered into 2/1. This was likely due to a gamble I placed on the third addition to the match.

With Flair moving in, Ripley was placed at 8/15 and was moved to 4/7 a couple of days after that.

Bianca Belair
Both sportsbooks closed with Bianca Belair a strong favourite to successfully retain the WWE Smackdown Women's Championship against Bayley.

Sky Bet opened its market in late-April with Belair at 1/5. She was down to 1/16 by the time betting closed.

Kambi's market had Belair a shorter 1/20. She had opened at 1/9 a fortnight ago.

The Mysterios
Rey and Dominik Mysterio were the closing favourites to beat the current WWE Smckdown Tag Team Champions - Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode.

Kambi's market was installed yesterday. It's worth pointing out that Ziggler and Roode lowered from 5/2 into 2/1 by 9:50PM BST, though.

It was all one-way in the market that was available from Sky Bet.

As you can see, in the table above, The Mysterios were 8/11 favourites on May 10th. They plummeted all the way down to 1/4 by this morning.

Roman Reigns
WWE Universal Champion was a closing 1/10 (Sky Bet) and 1/8 (Kambi) when the markets closed for Cesaro's title challenge.

Even though both firms closed with Reigns as a favourite. The betting contrasted.

Over at Sky Bet, Reigns' price dropped from 1/5 into the 1/10.  However, if you look at Kambi's market, you'll notice that it was Cesaro's price that declined.

Reigns' challenger started off at 11/2 yesterday, but was down to 4/1 ahead of the market's closure. With Cesaro moving in, Kambi pushed Reigns up from 1/14 to 1/8.

Bobby Lashley
WWE Champion - Bobby Lashley - was the opening, and closing, favourite to beat Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman when they meet in a triple threat match.

The champ had started out at 3/5 with Kambi when betting commenced on May 2nd. However, by this evening, customers were offered 1/4.

Sky Bet closed with Lashley at 1/3. The market was priced up on April 28th with the eventual closing favourite at 5/6.
