How To Get The WWE Network Early On A UK Apple TV

The WWE Network unofficially launched in the UK and Ireland this past Tuesday, so I have been testing the apps on a number of devices.

I had purchased a subscription to the Network last year using a DNS service. Back then, the only way I watched WWE pay-per-views was through a Playstation 3 as I didn't want to mess around with the settings on the other products I own.

In the past couple of days, I have been eagerly anticipating the Apple TV software to update with a WWE Network app. As the official launch is set for this coming Monday (January 19th), it's possible the software will update then. If not, I have found a stopgap solution to cover us in case one isn't available in time for the Royal Rumble next weekend.

This method does not need to change your DNS settings. It's quite simple. You will need to have an active WWE Network account before you can access the Network on an Apple TV, though.

Step 1. First, let's start with the UK Apple TV home screen.

When you're on this screen, select 'Settings'.

Step 2: The 'Settings' Menu

When you're on this screen, move the cursor to 'iTunes Store' and press select.

Step 3 : The iTunes Store screen

Navigate to the Preferences and select the Location option. As your Apple TV is set up to the UK iTunes store, you'll need to change it. Don't worry, this does not mean you have to change any details of your iTunes account.

Step 4 : USA, USA, USA!

Now all you need to do is change your iTunes store location from UK to 'United States'. Scroll down to 'United States' and click the remote to confirm.

Your Apple TV should now be set to display content available from a US iTunes account. Navigate back to the home screen.

Step 5 : The US menu

You'll find WWE Network along with a number of other apps that are unavailable on a British Apple TV. Click on it.

Step 6 : Sign In

You'll now be met with the options to sign in with your account, subscribe with iTunes or restore an earlier iTunes purchase. The only choice that can work here - as you haven't got a US iTunes account - is to login with a WWE Network account that has been set up elsewhere.

Step 7: Search & Enjoy!

Once you're in, you'll see a page similar to this:

Just choose what ever you want to watch and the video will play:

As noted, this is just an interim solution until the WWE Network app appears on an Apple TV update here in the UK (or Ireland!). When you are aware that the app has been installed with an update, you can go back to settings and change your iTunes store location back to the UK.

With a bit of fortune, we won't need this workaround by Royal Rumble Sunday.
