Comment Bag : 3 January 2017

Jordan left this a little over two hours ago:

David, with Chris Jericho announcing he is in the Royal Rumble, would you say that increases his chance of winning or would it have been better if it was a surprise?
I just feel Jericho telling everyone that best friends can wrestle at WrestleMania and it doesn't matter who wins etc (albeit Owens didn't seem too happy with the idea. So maybe Jericho wins and Kevin Owens reacts badly to it, allowing Jericho to turn babyface?)

My reply:

I doubt Chris Jericho is going to win now. Not after last night. The scenario you described is how I've written it should go ever since I suggested the possibility of the company having Jericho win the Rumble to set up Kevin Owens trying to sway his friend's mind to challenge for the WWE Championship (a bit like Triple H and Batista in 2005). It is, or rather was, perfect.
Last night's Raw not only planted the idea in people's heads that Jericho could win, it also suggested that Jericho and Owens could meet in the 'main event of WrestleMania'.
They're obviously going to end up with Jericho versus Owens, but I have no confidence it'll be done by having Jericho get a title shot following a Rumble win. I have moved Jericho down to third with Undertaker and Braun Strowman above him on my ranking of potential winners. There's always a chance of him winning, but it's extremely slim.
So much happened on that final segment of Raw. I have a feeling we're going to see Goldberg a lot this year because they've set up so much for him in that one spot. I'm intrigued to see how this will all play out and would not be surprised if he hasn't challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship by the end of the year. My guess is it'll be the SummerSlam main event.

    1. To be fair, if you look at past winners, most of the names were obvious picks going in.

  2. Is there a plan b for braun strowman because it doesn't seem likely roman will walk out San Antonio champion.which will most probrably lessen his chances of winning it. Would it be best if he just takes part in the battle royals.

    1. What makes you think it doesn't seem likely that Roman will win the championship? It's looking very likely where I'm watching.

Also, Strowman wouldn't have been in the closing segment on Raw, in the mix with all that talent, if they didn't have a big role for him at Mania.

    2. Wasn't wwes plan was to go with Owens and Jericho. What happened? If what your saying is correct look out the crowds gonna boo the living hell out of him.

    3. They're obviously still going with Owens/Jericho. There was never a guarantee the match would be for the title.

    4. Braun vs. Roman feels more likely as a US Title match than Roman walking out as Universal Champ.

  3. I think Undertaker is going to win it. Especially if he announces he's going in. Be a bit of a waste to bring him back to lose

    2. To be fair it's hard to justify someone winning against Taker at Wrestlemania unless its for a very good reason i.e cena winning 16th wwe title. Which is going to happen from aj styles now. Which makes it better for Taker to beat Cena at Wrestlemania for the WWE title and retire soon after

  4. Also, Roman Reigns vs Goldberg is definitely happening at some point. It's exactly what that staredown was all about last night, for sure.
