Shane McMahon's Elimination Chamber Announcement And More

On last night's Smackdown, Shane McMahon's announcement ended up being about the Elimination Chamber. He stated that the WWE World Championship will be defended inside Satan's Structure.

Barring a storyline diversion, such as the match stipulation changing to being for the number one contender, I think it's a safe to assume that John Cena will be the titleholder once the event ends.

So, you know where I'm going, right?

The news has strengthened my opinion that Samoa Joe will be your Royal Rumble winner. I believe this is setting up a meeting between he and John Cena at WrestleMania.

I have just checked in with Joe's odds, Ladbrokes.com has snipped him from 7/1 into 6s. However, Sky Bet is still showing him at 7/1 on its Royal Rumble Betting Page.

Another takeaway I have from last night is that the groundwork for an AJ Styles versus Shane McMahon WrestleMania match was set up.

This more or less confirmed it to me that the title will no longer be Styles' at the Royal Rumble or, at most, the Elimination Chamber.

  1. Assuming Styles loses the title to Cena at the Rumble, where and when does he get his rematch? He's been champion since September, are they going to devalue is title reign by having a throwaway rematch on Smackdown or it being lost in the Chamber match? I see Styles holding the title all the way through Mania season where he'll defend against The Miz or Corbin. Cena v Taker for Mania, neither need the Rumble win. My shortlist would be Strowman (backed at 40/1 post Survivor Series), The Miz & Baron Corbin. My theory (SD covered above) Reigns wins Universal, rematch with Owens at Fastlane, build towards Reigns v Strowman & Owens v Jericho for Mania. My dark horse would be Sami Zayn and like you can't rule out Finn Balor.

    1. Here are the clues from last night:

      - They've started talking about Cena going for his 16th title win again. That's enough of a signal that he's regaining the title imminently.
      - They've started the Shane McMahon versus AJ Styles direction. Therefore, I doubt he's holding the title into Mania season.

Vince McMahon has nixed the Cena versus Undertaker match. Can't see it happening unless there's a change of heart within the next fortnight.

    2. I don't think there's room on a Mania card for Shane-O-Mac, or NXT callups for that matter. No need to rush the Cena storyline, the more often he fails the bigger it will be.. I've mocked up my Mania card and tweeted you...

  2. After smackdown, it appears that AJ would indeed get the win at the rumble, but then lose in the Chamber. This would give him reason to be upset with Shane for booking him in a match where its "nearly impossible" for the champion to retain. This will spark their feud.

  3. Have you entirely written off Cena vs Taker at Mania purely because you read an article on the Wrestling Observer saying Vince has nixed it?

Have you not considered that the WWE has leaked bogus info to Meltzer to create uncertainty & unpredictability about the rumble outcome (which has worked if they have)?

I still think Taker wins rumble, Cena/Taker is main event of mania and can only see one reason why it would not be - that they are saving it for Taker's last match in New Orleans.

    1. I have been reading the Observer since the mid-1990s. Every year around this time, Dave writes about Mania directions. He is very rarely wrong. So, I haven't written it off because of the article, I've done so because there's a good track record to Dave's reporting of such things.

I do not buy into any conspiracy theory of leaking incorrect information to throw people off.

  4. Again I think everyone is prematurely hyping up Joe here, I doubt he makes final 4 let alone winning

Seems like the bookies are gonna be laughing come 29th

    1. Seems more are backing Joe when I really can't see him getting close to winning, imo it's not really a good bet I think the winner is someone already announced in the match

Joe is a huge risk at a falling price

  5. What if...

    Cena wins title at RR

Someone wins RR match, samoa joe not in it

Aj uses his rematch clause to enter elimination chamber

They announce all but 1 participants

Samoa joe enters the chamber as a surprise entrant and wins

Cena vs Joe at wrestlemania. Cena going for his 17th title win (to be the man you gotta beat the man)
