Paddy Power Cuts 2 Rumble 2018 Selections' Odds

The oddsmakers at Paddy Power have cut the odds for two selections in their 2018 WWE Royal Rumble betting markets since Tuesday night's edition of Smackdown aired.

AJ Styles has moved from 10/1 into 8s and Shinsuke Nakamura is now 16/1 from 20/1.

The moves make some sense, in my opinion.

With both stars now tied to the Smackdown brand, for the time being at least, they could very well wind up on opposite sides at next year's WrestleMania.

If they do face each other at Mania 34 - and it's for the title - one of them could very well become a challenger via a Royal Rumble win.

There are a few things worth noting, however.

With the brand split - and there being two premier titles in the company - the winner of the Rumble could end up being somebody who is tied to the Raw brand.

With the rumour that next year's Universal Championship match will be a rematch, of sorts, between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar - and with the latter the current titleholder - Reigns could be the person who wins January's battle royal.

For what it's worth, Reigns is the 2/1 favourite as of the time of writing.

Another thing worth considering is if there is another Elimination Chamber event in February of 2018.

If the pay-per-view is exclusive to Smackdown, there is a possibility that the main event match will be a number one contender match, unlike this year's edition which was a title bout.

I'm also intrigued to see what becomes of John Cena within the next year. I believe he shouldn't be ruled out from winning the Royal Rumble at this stage.

And here's why.

A WrestleMania story that could be done in 2018 is to have him chase title number seventeen which - in WWE's narrative - will break the record. If this does end up being one of the plans for WrestleMania 34, then Cena winning the battle royal - or the Elimination Chamber - is one route to get there.

As of today, I can see either of the four names being victorious on January 28th.
