WON Star Rating Odds For A Couple Of Battleground 2017 Matches

I wrote a couple of posts yesterday where I mentioned that the Kambi oddsmakers had published a handful of Wrestling Observer Newsletter Star Ratings proposition markets for WWE Battleground. I stated that I would cover them sometime today. So, here goes.

For starters, the oddsmakers have set up an over/under market for the flag match where John Cena will go one-on-one with Rusev. The traders have set a line of 3.5 stars. Therefore, the customers have a choice of taking the over (17/20) or under (17/20).

I haven't placed a wager on that market, but - as noted in a post published yesterday - I have had a punt on one of the prop markets the traders have released for the Punjabi prison match which will see Randy Orton challenge Jinder Mahal for the WWE World Championship.

The line for this market opened at 1 Star with both the over and under available at 17/20 each. I backed the over because I have a strong feeling it isn't going to be as bad as previous Punjabi prison matches.

Well - I hope not, anyway.

I have finally got around to looking up how Dave Meltzer rated the two other Punjabi prison matches in history and they were both received poorly.

The first-ever Punjabi prison match pitted The Big Show against The Underaker when it debuted on the WWE Great American Bash 2006 card. The PPV was marred by the 'Elevated Enzymes' test results that forced WWE to sub a number of its talent on the night of the show. The Great Khali was one of the names pulled. Big Show was the replacement.

The match received minus one star.

In 2007, the gimmick match returned. This time, Great Khali did compete. He took on Batista.

Meltzer thought the match was an improvement from the previous year as, in his review of WWE No Mercy 2007, he gave the match one-and-a-quarter stars.

In yesterday's post, I pointed out that Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal have had above average star ratings for their two previous pay-per-view outings. Their Backlash match was awarded two-and-three-quarter stars while the most recent, at Money in the Bank, saw them get three-and-a-half.

The odds for 'One Star or more' has been cut from 17/20 to 13/20 since yesterday. A winning wager on the under will now pay out at odds of 11/10.

There is also a proposition market where clients can have a punt on the Punjabi prison match being given a minus/negative number of stars in Meltzer's review of the event.

The price for 'Yes' is 7/4, while the 'No' is favoured at 2/5.

I won't be betting on this particular market, but - going by how I've backed the over one star in the other prop market - it should go without saying that I have confidence in 'No'.

The market is currently available on the websites that publish WWE betting odds from the Kambi odsmakers. A couple of examples are below:

  1. If the match is all too gimmicky like when Randy did that segment with Bray then he'll probably rate it very low, but if they put on a decent wrestling performance - achieving 1 star minimum should be fairly easy to accomplish.
