Backing The SummerSlam 2017 Main Event To Go 20 Minutes Plus

One of the WWE SummerSlam 2017 specials that are currently available on both the Paddy Power and Betfair websites is an over/under where customers can bet on the length of the WWE Universal Championship match.

As of the time of writing, the oddsmakers have the following options:

19:59 and Under 8/11
Over 19:59 EVS

For what it's worth, I have blindly gambled on the over.

The main reason why I've backed this selection is similar to why I took the over for the fatal 5-way at Extreme Rules earlier this summer  - it's because the match consists of the top stars from Raw and should therefore have enough time dedicated to it.

To be honest, I do have one minor reservation about this bet.

With a six-man match announced this evening, it's now a thirteen match card. There is a possibility of matches going over their allotted time and this could eat into the other bouts on the card. With the Universal Championship match likely to be the main event, then it's open to having some time scratched.

With that said, WWE is no longer tied to a PPV schedule as such. The company told its PPV partners a while ago that some shows could extend beyond their usual cut-off point.

I keep refreshing my memory about the Exteme Rules over/under as it allows me to think I've taken the right side.

I backed the Fatal 5-Way to go over twenty-eight minutes in June. It managed to barely pass the line as it went a little over twenty-nine minutes. On Sunday, the line is eight minutes shorter. I think it's doable.

The market is available from Paddy Power's WWE Betting Page and Betfair's 'Special Bets' Page.

  1. I would actually bet the under for one reason - Brock Lesnar is in the match. He hasn't worked a match longer than 20 minutes since Royal Rumble 2015, when his classic 3-way with John Cena and Seth Rollins went about 22 minutes. Lesnar spent half that match selling a broken rib. They could do something similar, but with the length of the card you mentioned and his recent track record, I'm guessing this comes in around 15. We shall see!
