The Rock's Royal Rumble Winner Odds Halved

The Rock's odds to win the 2018 WWE Royal Rumble have been halved from 80/1 in an outright winner market that's available from Paddy Power.

The cut into 40s was made yesterday.

This move coincided with the news reported in the issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter - which came out yesterday - of there being internal discussions regarding a special referee for the Brock Lesnar versus Jinder Mahal match at the Survivor Series.

Dwayne Johnson is one of the names on the list of potential refs. The other two are 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and John Cena.

For possible future storylines, it makes sense for John Cena to be put in this spot. However, the newsletter's editor pointed out that WWE believes that - having Dwayne Johnson or Steve Austin involved in the November 19th match - would be a way to enhance Jinder Mahal's presence just by being associated with Lesnar and The Rock or Austin.

Both Austin (150/1) and Cena (9/4 joint-favourite) remain at the prices they were before the report started circulating across other news sites.

  1. Did you hear when the Alv weighed in on this conversation? He mentioned The Undertaker as being the special referee.... I laughed and I laughed and I laughed.

    1. Yep, on Tuesday's show when Dave brought it up.
I initially thought Austin because of the show being in Texas.
What about you? Did you have a guess?

    2. I'm not convinced that they are doing it but hypothetically if Dave's source ends up correct then you would think it would be someone to further a story however in keeping with Kayfabe you would imagine that it would be someone that both sides are happy as a referee so that would be John Cena because he's the free agent and it could further a story with Cena and Mahal, however if that match is Mania then we have a way to go to stretch that out. If they go with someone random then going on your Texas line of thinking then what about JBL? I hope they don't have a special ref, just do the draw that was discussed on a previous post with both locker rooms coming out because the TITLES ARE IMPORTANT DAMMIT :)

    3. I just don't think there's anyway Lesnar is winning - it would make the WWE Title (and Smackdown) seem worse... Between now and then both Lesnar and Mahal could insult the locker rooms saying how much better they are etc etc which could then lead to them all coming out and attacking both of them and just generally having a massive brawl between Smackdown and raw

  2. Storyline wise, don't you think it makes sense for Cena to be special guest referee which plants seeds for Cena vs Mahal in the future

Alvarez said on the Twitter that Cena vs Mahal can either Happen at Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania or both

    1. Yes, that's why I wrote 'For possible future storylines, it makes sense for John Cena to be put in this spot'.
