Something To Think About Regarding Elias And The Andre Battle Royal

Here is some food for thought for those of you who are thinking of backing Elias to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal this weekend - The early betting favourite has historically never won this match.

With the battle royal having been around since WrestleMania XXX - which coincided with it being the first WrestleMania I covered here at WWELeaks - I have the luxury of going back over my records to point out who the opening favourites were and contrast them with the winners. So, here goes.

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal Betting History

As you can see in the table - not one early favourite has ever gone on to win the match in the four years that the match has been a part of a WrestleMania card.

In 2014, before losing his first name - Alexander Rusev - was named as Paddy Power's favourite to win the battle royal when the Irish bookmakers published its market. The eventual winner was another person who lost his first name since that time - Antonio Cesaro.

The following year, Damien Sandow - then known as Damien Mizdow - opened as Sky Bet's favourite to win the match. He was the last person eliminated by the winning Big Show.

Depending on which angle you want to look at it - Randy Orton (Bwin) or Braun Strowman were the early favourites to win the bout at WrestleMania 32. Instead, the match was won by NXT's Baron Corbin.

The most recent WrestleMania saw Mojo Rawley win the trophy. This was mainly because his friend, New England Patriots' Tight End, Rob Gronkowski, was in attendance and played a part for the sports center moment. Going in, however, the bookies once again thought Braun Strowman was the man to beat.

The trend is not walking with Elias.

  1. He not even in a list of confirmed entrants in WrestleMania 34 battle royal.

I think Elias will be singing in main card, and then Rock came out

    2. Thanks.

Big Cass is tempting since he's due to return any day now and has been backstage recently I believe.

    3. You're welcome.

I've had a bet on Cass, Joe and Bray Wyatt.

Did you bet on the guy you mentioned to me in email last night?

    5. Haha, that's why I didn't mention his name just in case someone beats you to it.

    6. Had any bets on the Womens battle royale? I'm actually very tempted at someone like Lana just for fun.

Apart from her, if Nikki Bella is in it, it could very well be her.

The fact that Sasha Banks is the only participent on there that is also on the poster is interesting too though, although I feel Bayley will cost her.

    9. Now I’m more curious about Jordan’s mystery man than I am about Braun’s mystery tag partner! Fill us in Jordan!
