Reigns .vs. McIntyre Wins Match Of Night At WWE Stomping Grounds 2019 And More

Roman Reigns .vs. Drew McIntyre was awarded the most stars in Dave Meltzer's review of last Sunday's WWE Stomping Grounds PPV.

The bout, which saw Reigns beat McIntyre, was given three-and-three-quarter stars by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter editor.

Reigns .vs. McIntyre was being offered at odds of 11/2 right up to 17/2 in Kambi's market in which customers could place wagers on the bout they thought would be the highest rated in Meltzer's review.

Ricochet's United States Championship victory over Samoa Joe - which was the bookies' favourite having opened at 5/4 on Friday evening before closing at 6/4 on Sunday - was one of three matches that received three-and-a-half-stars in the review.

'Exactly 3.75 Stars' was the winning selection in a market in which customers could have bet on the 'Exact Star Rating of the Highest Rated Match'. It was 2/1 from Friday right through to its close on Sunday night.

Kambi's Over/Under markets have also been settled. Below is a table with the results and then some individual notes about the matches.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship
The three-and-a-half stars for the Drew Gulak's Cruiserweight Championship win over Tony Nese and Akira Tozawa went over the line of three stars. The 'Over' fell from 9/10 into 7/10 - with a stop at 4/5 - between Friday and Sunday, so it indicates that the consensus was on the right side when all was said and done.

WWE Raw Women's Championship
Becky Lynch .vs. Lacey Evans beat the line of two stars by a quarter. The consensus appear to have backed the wrong side as the 'Under' fell from 23/20 into 9/10 by 11AM BST on Sunday morning. The best price for the 'Over' was 11/10. It rose from 9/10 when the 'Under' was cut.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn .vs. Big E and Xavier Woods
The oddsmaker had the line right for the tag match as Meltzer gave it three-and-a-half. No adjustments were made to the market across the weekend. The winning selection was 2/1 while both the 'Over' and 'Under' were both offered at EVS.

WWE United States Championship
Richochet's US Championship win over Samoa Joe was another match that was a winner for anyone who may have backed the middling selection. The 'Exactly 3.50 Stars' was 2/1 throughout the weekend. However, there were adjustments made to the other two options as the 'Over' was snipped from 11/10 into EVS and the 'Under' was pushed to EVS from 9/10 by Sunday morning.

WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship
Kambi set the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship contest between Daniel Bryan and Rowan and their challengers, Heavy Machinery at 2.75. The bout was another that was rated three-and-a-half stars, so the winning selection was obviously the 'Over'. It was cut from EVS into 17/20 by Sunday morning.

WWE Smackdown Women's Championship
The consensus - myself included - took Bayley .vs. Alexa Bliss to go over Kambi's line of 2.25 as it was cut from 19/20 into 17/20. The eventual winner turned out to be the 'Under' as the match was given one-and-a-half by Meltzer. Customers would have found the 'Under' at a best price 11/10 on Sunday. It opened at 19/20.

Roman Reigns .vs. Drew McIntyre
The best match in Meltzer's review had a line of 2.75 Stars. The three-and-three-quarters means that the 'Over' was the winning selection. The best price would have been the 11/10 that customers would have found on Friday and Saturday. It was down to 4/5 by 11AM BST on Sunday morning.

WWE Championship
Kofi Kingston's steel cage match win over Dolph Ziggler - to retain the WWE Championship - was given a line of three stars by the oddsmakers. It fell under by half a star.

This was second - and final - losing effort on my part in betting on Stomping Grounds Over/Unders as I had backed the 'Over'. The consensus would have also lost out as the price for the 'Over' descended from 5/4 into 7/10 between Friday and Sunday.

The best price for the winning selection would have been the 13/10 that was available on Sunday night. It had opened at 4/5 on Friday and spent most of Sunday at 5/4.

WWE Universal Championship
Seth Rollins' successful Universal Championship defence against Baron Corbin was the worst match of the night. It was given one star by the newsletter editor. The low rating meant that the bout fell below Kambi's line of 2.50 Stars.

The winning selection opened at 21/20 on Friday, but was at a slightly higher 5/4 throughout Sunday.

Finally, there were four Observer-themed prop bets available for the PPV. All were settled in favour of the 'No'.

The prop titled 'Joint Winners' asked customers to bet 'Yes' or 'No' on two matches getting the highest amount of star ratings in Dave Meltzer's review. With Reigns .vs. McIntyre being the only match higher than three-and-a-half stars, 'No' was the winning selection at 2/7.

'Lowest Rated' was a prop in which customers could bet on or against 'Any match featuring only women as active participants to be solely awarded the lowest star rating'. Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin - and I guess Lacey Evans, to a degree - saved Bayley and Alexa Bliss as the women had half a star more than the main event's one star. Therefore, the 'No' - which was 17/20 all weekend - was the winning selection.

The aforementioned main event of Seth Rollins .vs. Baron Corbin getting one star meant that any bets on the 'Main Event' prop will be settled on the 'No' at 7/20. The rule of this prop was to bet whether or not the 'Last match to start' would be 'awarded the highest star rating'.

(As an aside, they should put up a prop named 'Flat Finish' which allows customers to bet on the main event being the lowest rated match of the night. Especially if Rollins/Lynch .vs. Corbin/Evans is the main event of Extreme Rules)

The 'Title Match' proposition asked customers to wager on 'a match valid for any Championship to be awarded the highest star rating'. With the US Championship match a favourite to be match of the night, the 'Yes' was positioned as an 11/50 favourite. With Roman Reigns .vs. Drew McIntyre being match of the night - and with no title at stake - the outsider of 'No', at 11/4, turned out to be the correct side.

That's all for now. I would usually end by writing 'Hopefully, we'll get more Observer markets for X PPV in X weeks', but that's redundant as of right now as customers can place Observer-themed bets on AEW All Out and there are tons and tons of Observer star rating markets for New Japan Pro Wrestling's G1 Climax tournament. You can find them all on the link below.
