I've been wagering on both of the Rumble matches since as far back as February. I started off with what regular visitors to this blog will find as no surprise - the annual punt on John Cena. I also had a gamble on Edge (10/1) along with a couple of the rumoured Paul Heyman projects - Ricochet and Aleister Black.
A lot happened since then, hasn't it?
It was during the autumn when I started thinking that Daniel Bryan had a shot of winning the men's match. I also thought there was a chance of Sheamus (66/1) considering WWE had introduced his friendship with Drew McIntyre into the storyline.
As for the women - the name I focused in on from the start was Bianca Belair. I thought that, after a good showing in the 2020 Royal Rumble, that she'd end up on a year-long push with a title match at WrestleMania.
I backed other female wrestlers as the months passed by, but Belair was my top pick. I counted my wagers a few weeks ago and I had sixteen Belair bets across a number of betting websites. I've cashed in a couple of them for profit and to place punts on the only person who I believe has a chance of ruining my Bianca bets - Rhea Ripley.
It seems this is Bianca's week. She was the talent who was the featured star of the WWE Network's most recent edition of WWE Chronicle and got what was called her biggest career win over Bayley on last night's Smackdown.
The next step would be to be victorious tomorrow night and then go on to be in one of the major matches at WrestleMania.
They've already teased what the post-Rumble headline could be as well as there is bound to be a pun on Bianca's EST moniker by saying she's 'Going to WrESTleMania'.
I believe it's Bianca's match to lose. And the only person I believe could come in and take that spot is the aforementioned Rhea Ripley.
I believe it's out of Edge or Daniel Bryan in the men's Royal Rumble. From betting, I'm looking to make the most from a Bryan win (I think!) so maybe I am going to be biased with what I'll write next.
Both men have similar stories going into Sunday. However, there is an obvious difference. And that one contrast is what has made me decide to lock in Bryan as my pick to win the match.
On Monday, Edge's focus was to main event WrestleMania and win a championship. For weeks, we've had WWE tell us that Bryan has never won a Royal Rumble.
You have to go with the tale that will be told the soonest.
I'm not ruling Edge out of being in one of the title matches at Mania. I just think he'll get there another way. His story, or rather obsession, to win a title at Mania can continue beyond January 31st.
Daniel Bryan's story - of not having won a Royal Rumble - cannot continue after tomorrow.
My Picks
Bianca Belair
Daniel Bryan
