Brand Extension Champion Betting

The oddsmakers at 888Sport.com, 32Red.com and Unibet.com have once again shown they're all-in on WWE betting after releasing another intriguing market.

This time customers can wager on the wrestler they believe will become a new heavyweight champion if the world title is split up due to the impending brand extension.

Before I get into this, I think it's worth looking at the rules:

Just like with regular WWE betting, the bets will be settled according what is announced on WWE.com. It's also worth noting that all bets are void if a title is given to the wrestler. I doubt it'll happen this time, but - had this market been open in 2002 - the bets would have been cancelled as Triple H was given the World Heavyweight Championship without having to win a match. Like I noted, I doubt history will repeat itself in this case.

Now, onto the odds. Below are the prices for all of the individuals on the bookmakers' list. I'll add some thoughts below.

John Cena 7/2
Roman Reigns 4/1
Seth Rollins 4/1
AJ Styles 5/1
Brock Lesnar 13/2
Randy Orton 13/2
Dean Ambrose 10/1
Kevin Owens 10/1
Bray Wyatt 14/1
Chris Jericho 20/1
Triple H 20/1
Cesaro 33/1
Finn Balor 33/1
Sami Zayn 33/1
Samoa Joe 33/1
Shinsuke Nakamura 33/1
Bill Goldberg 50/1
Kurt Angle 50/1
Shane McMahon 50/1
The Undertaker 50/1
Vince McMahon 50/1
Alberto Del Rio 66/1
Apollo Crews 66/1
Baron Corbin 66/1
Big E 66/1
Big Show 66/1
Braun Strowman 66/1
Dolph Ziggler 66/1
Erick Rowan 66/1
Kalisto 66/1
Kane 66/1
Karl Anderson 66/1
Luke Gallows 66/1
Luke Harper 66/1
Neville 66/1
Rusev 66/1
Sheamus 66/1
The Miz 66/1
Tyler Breeze 66/1
Xavier Woods 66/1
ZZ Loupe 66/1
Batista 100/1
CM Punk 100/1
The Rock 100/1
Charlotte 150/1
Ronda Rousey 150/1
Stephanie McMahon 150/1
Josh Bradl 250/1
Zack Ryder 500/1

I have backed four selections: Chris Jericho (20/1), Kevin Owens (10/1), AJ Styles (5/1) and John Cena (7/2). Either of the final two should be in with a high chance of coming in.

In this week's issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (published this morning), Dave Meltzer wrote in-depth about the upcoming split and noted that John Cena and AJ Styles will likely be the top babyface and heel respectively on whichever show they end up being drafted to. The program between the two was kicked off on this past Monday's episode of Raw.

I've discounted Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins from the equation as, barring a change of course, they should be tied to the regular WWE World Heavyweight Championship as titleholder and challenger for the time being.

2016 is important here as well. If a title isn't set up by the end of the year, all bets are off. If the company is going the two world champion route, I'm confident this won't be an issue.

The markets can be found under 'WWE' on the sportsbook menus at all of the websites listed below.
