Another Speculative Punt On The Rumble

You can add one more name to the (more than a) handful of Royal Rumble selections that I have placed speculative punts on this year.

I've now had a bet on Braun Strowman (33/1 on Ladbrokes' Royal Rumble Page).

There's a reason behind this.

As I've written extensively over the past few months, the top two selections on my list are John Cena from Smackdown and Raw's Chris Jericho.

Even though I would like Jericho and Kevin Owens to end up feuding over the Universal Championship after Jericho outlasts everyone in the Royal Rumble, I cannot shake off the feeling that - somewhere between Sunday and the build up to WrestleMania 33  - Roman Reigns will win the strap.

There have been rumours of a US Championship match between Reigns and Braun Strowman for WrestleMania, so I've thought I'd have a punt at the 33/1 just in case the plan has changed and that the two will square off for the Universal title.

If Reigns does end up claiming the championship any time before the Rumble, Strowman's odds to win the battle royal are sure to plummet especially with the suggestion that the pair could meet at WrestleMania.

  1. What say to Sami zayns odds dropping to 14-1 on betfair?!

  2. Someone over-reacting to what happened on Raw would be my guess.

  3. This would work out great if Jericho costs Owens the universal title at Roadblock.

Sets up Jericho vs Reigns vs Owens for univeral title at Royal Rumble

(Reigns loses US title earlier in ppv, similar to what they did to Seth)

And then braun wins RR and reigns retains universal title

    I like it!

    1. Even though I've bet on it, I don't like it!

Would much rather have Owens vs Jericho for the Universal at Mania because that has been the best story on Raw this autumn/winter.

    2. Oh sorry I meant i like where your thinking. I completely agree. Jericho nearly carries Raw on his own. Its gonna suck when he leaves eventually for another Fozzy tour

    3. Due to Rollins' speech the last 2 weeks on Raw, I think Rollins & Owens have to be involved in the next title match beyond Roadblock. We all know that the HHH storyline will be treated with the utmost of importance. Seems like Rollins promo has laid out the exact path to Mania

  4. I still say Goldberg and Lesnar will be the last 2 in the Rumble, setting up a double-finish and a number one contender's match at WrestleMania.

  5. I've backed Jericho a few months ago, but lately I've been unsure.. Here's the reason: let's say Jericho does win.. Is it possible for him to feud with Owens for 2 months leading into Wrestlemania without being in a match with him until then? just a thought.

    1. It's always possible to keep two guys apart if they wanted to. Just look at this year's WrestleMania as one example - HHH and Roman Reigns didn't meet until their match.

  6. Cena is the most interesting one with so many rumors.the interesting thing is whether he will be in the rumble or face aj for the title at royal rumble.

    1. If HHH v Rollins is a lock for Mania ( which I believe it is ) then Taker v Cena is too. Both matches were scheduled for Mania 32 so they'll want to get them done this year. Neither match, in my opinion, will be for a title. So i think one of Cena or Taker will be in the Rumble match & fail to win

    2. I can see Taker as champ with Cena going for the 16th world title against the guy who has only lost once at a WrestleMania.

    3. But then again.. as Kevin wrote above, it's also possible John Cena wins the title from AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble because Styles owes him (although one way I've written about recently is he could return the favour in a number one contenders match).

    4. Gonna stick my neck out & say Samoa Joe wins a no.1 contenders Elimination Chamber match in Feb to face AJ at Mania. Cena/Taker is a huge match. I dont see the need for it to be a title match even though they could still opt to go that route. I'd save Cena's 16th title victory for Summerslam personally.

    5. That's not likely.wwe will not be going through that route. Wwe probably feels now is the time not later. Joe could be on the roster but its very unlikely Joe will be winning it tbh. And if cena does main event the title will prob be on the line and personally cena has more at stake given the last two years he's had.
