Another Look Over Paddy Power's Rumble '17 Entrant Market

It has been a few days since the oddsmakers at PaddyPower.com published a Royal Rumble prop market where customers can bet on certain wrestlers being entrants in this year's battle royal.

In the post published on Monday, I noted that Samoa Joe was instantly backed as his price had shortened from 4/6 to 4/7. It has evidently dropped further as he and Tye Dillinger are both 3/10.

Dillinger's odds haven't changed over the four days. I wrote on Monday that his appearance on this list is due to people thinking the most perfect (10!) way to bring him up to the main roster is to be the tenth entrant in the match.

Another name whose odds have dipped is Shelton Benjamin. His price moved from EVENS to 4/6. Benjamin was set to return to WWE for the Smackdown brand, but was forced to undergo surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff over the summer.

Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode - who will wrestle each other the night before at the NXT TakeOver show - have been added to the list. Both are 6/5.

The other new additions to the board are: Carlito 3/1, Christian 4/1, Wade Barrett 10/1, Cody Rhodes 10/1, Scott Steiner 12/1 and Hulk Hogan 33/1.

One name stood out when I saw it listed yesterday.

I purposely held off on writing about the new additions until today's NJPW New Year Dash event because I wanted to see if Wade Barrett was on the show. There were surprises promised, so thought Barrett could have been one of them. Alas, he was not part of New Japan's event, so I have placed a small punt on Barrett being one of the entrants in the Royal Rumble.

There's a reason why I've singled him out.

Barrett was last seen on the stage of the live TalkSport Gorilla Position podcast event from London this December. WWE sent over Finn Balor and Bayley for the show and Barrett made a surprise appearance doing his 'Bad News Barrett' gimmick. I would assume WWE would have had to okay this, so it means he's still in good graces with the company. At 10/1, I thought it was worth a small punt on him making another cameo appearance on January 29th.

The market can be found alongside other Royal Rumble odds on Paddy Power's WWE Betting Page.
