Wrestling Observer Reports Undertaker Not In A Mania 33 Title Match

This week's issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has another article about the plans for this year's WrestleMania.

The big thing I took from it is that The Undertaker 'right now is not scheduled to challenge for either title on the show'.

The next assumption I jumped to was to think that Braun Strowman will end up being The Undertaker's dance partner for WrestleMania. This too was put out to pasture when I read that 'it will not be Strowman as things stand right now.'

Dave Meltzer did indicate that whoever Undertaker meets at Mania will be from the Raw roster.

This puts paid to the idea I've had for many years that, when a top-tier babyface promises something, he - or she - has to go through with it. On this week's episode of Raw, The Undertaker not only promised to win the battle royal on January 29th - he also vowed to main event WrestleMania 33.

The idea about top babyfaces delivering on their promises isn't something I came up with. It's an old school mentality where promoters would ensure their top babyfaces had integrity with the audience at home.

We've figured for a few weeks that the Taker/Cena match was looking unlikely, but this still left the door open for Undertaker to go up against whoever was Universal Champion. Roman Reigns, as noted, was one of the names Vince McMahon wanted The Undertaker to wrestle, so it made sense for him to claim the title from Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble to set up that match.

With Braun Strowman not in the plans for The Undertaker at WrestleMania, I'm back to speculating that he'll be the last man left on January 29th.

For what it's worth, the best price for a Strowman win can be found at a handful of bookies. He's 8/1 with Ladbrokes, William Hill and Coral (if you are thinking of opening a Coral account before Saturday evening, this post might be of interest).

  1. So this means Undertaker wont win Rumble or he can win it but doesnt take the title match ,opting for another Raw Superstar at WM

  2. Now that taker is not going to battle either titleholders at mania.I mention his name a lot but it will be interesting to know what plans wwe have for john. And also the fact he's advertised for elimination chamber.

  3. The 4 people that made Mr Taylor's list as of 2 days ago were Undertaker, Strowman, Balor, and Jericho...

Mr Taylor, Meltzer is now forcing you to take Undertaker off your list. Find someone to replace him with and make a good case for him.

    1. That would be a good shout, but the article states that Undertaker's opponent is set to be someone from the Raw brand.

  7. The Randy Orton steam is a bit baffling to me. Then again, this year's Rumble is proving much trickier than last year's lovely payday on Triple H

  8. I know im just speculating. Because if the deadmans not in the title picture... And cena isnt locked in. Then there isnt alot he can go for considering other stars are locked in

    Goldberg
    Lesnar
    Hhh
    Rollins
