3 Early Favourites In Extreme Rules 2017 Wagering

It has been an over an hour since I published a post noting that Paddy Power had published odds for this weekend's WWE Extreme Rules 2017 pay-per-view. Since then, the punters have evidently been busy backing three selections.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion - Neville - has moved from 10/11 into 4/9 favourite to win the submission match against Austin Aries. As a result, the challenger has moved out from 8/11 into 7/5.

The Miz has become a 4/7 favourite to win the WWE Intecontinental Championship match. He opened at 11/10 with current titleholder - Dean Ambrose - opening as a 4/6 favourite, but moving to 5/4.

The main event market now has Seth Rollins at the top of the list after opening at 7/2 he has been backed into 15/8. The name that has moved out is Finn Balor. He went from 15/8 to 3s.

All three moves make sense to me.

With Neville, he has already shown that he can tap out to Aries. So, this would lead the fans to expect it to happen on Sunday.

The Miz winning the Intercontinental Championship by DQ would not surprise me. When the stipulation was first revealed, I thought they'd do something where Maryse slapped The Miz resulting in Dean Ambrose being disqualified. That would be too obvious, though. I like an idea that Matt left in the William Hill request post a few weeks ago. He believes that Elias Samson will involve himself in the match. Further to this, another WWELeaks.org regular - Marc - also noted to me that Samson had a line in his song on this week's Raw where he mentioned 'returning an A-list favour'.

As for Seth Rollins - he is the wrestler that I've backed to become number one contender. It was a case of him being the odd man out if you look at the other runners in the bout and how they could lead off into other programs post-Sunday. Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor is where things seemed to have been going before this match was set up, Samoa Joe has already been in a program with Rollins so I believe Roman Reigns will be his rival coming out of Extreme Rules and this would leave Rollins to move on to Lesnar.

We'll see whether this plays out on Sunday and beyond.

  1. I was thinking about Bray Wyatt before odds was published. He is like guy who just one here wasnt pin-ed since joining RAW. And its looks like Joe-Rollins feud not over yet

    1. Rollins and Balor have already been positioned as wanting to challenge for the Universal Championship, so - going by the story - it should be one of them with the other guy ending up getting the shot later in the year after Strowman.
