Last night's controversial World Cup win by Shane McMahon has resulted in controversy from a betting perspective.
I am in a tough spot because I had wagers on John Cena, Seth Rollins, The Miz and Bobby Lashley to win the tournament and anything I write might come across as me wanting to have my stakes back because my bets lost. So, before I continue, I'd like to be transparent and state that I too lost on the results.
I'm only going to write about the bookies I have covered for Crown Jewel.
What I have been told by one person is Betfair and Paddy Power have voided all wagers on the outright winner because Shane McMahon was not included in their markets that were published a day before the show.
William Hill, which published markets for the tournament a couple of days before the event, did not have McMahon in its market and hasn't voided it.
Kambi has settled the market as a loss for all selections. Shane McMahon DID NOT appear in the list, but the rules state that others could have been added added upon request. This is the same company that settled the 'Braun Strowman Partner' market at WrestleMania with all of the selections as losers because of 'Nicholas', so it isn't surprising.
(Who was going to request Nicholas!?)
Sky Bet is the company that people have been asking me about the most today and this is a a tough one to call because from day one, there was a blurb at the top of the market which stated that it was an antepost market and that all bets would stand. Furthermore, Shane McMahon DID appear in the market before the final eight wrestlers were made official by WWE.
Most of my bets were placed when Shane McMahon was listed on Sky Bet's market, so - like I mentioned above- I don't want to come across as whiny about my bets. I personally think I lost fair and square, but I have empathy for those who may have came along later on and backed the selections - not just at Sky Bet, but everywhere else - and ended up a loser because the eventual winner was not in the running leading in to the show.
If it were up to me, and I couldn't follow Paddy Power/Betfair and void every selection, the best alternative would be to only void The Miz and Dolph Ziggler as they were only selections affected by Shane's win. The rest of the field had been eliminated by then.
It's hard to be objective as I had bets on this myself, but I don't deserve to have won as most of my bets were done when Shane was a runner and I was aware of the rules going in, so I doubt I'm the right person to be writing about this.
Update: Since posting, I've been alerted to the fact that BoyleSports and Betway voided bets on the market.
Just silly. And in a weird way it seems its WWEs way again go annoy people who bet on it and to also say how "unpredictable" it is etc.
ReplyDeleteThat nicholas bet was a joke! Just like the storyline.
