Strowman Possibly Out Of Universal Title Match At The Royal Rumble

It looks like the Brock Lesnar .vs. Braun Strowman match - that was scheduled to take place at the Royal Rumble in less than two weeks - is off.

There are reports that, on tonight's episode of WWE Raw, Vince McMahon will remove Strowman from the match and there will be an angle where McMahon's limousine will be flipped over. Whether this happens before or after Strowman is taken out of the Universal Championship match hasn't been reported.

I suspected there was a chance of some sort of change when Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley began to talk about winning the Royal Rumble and then going on to challenge Brock Lesnar. Their promos overlooked the possibility of Strowman being their potential WrestleMania opponent.

This evidently points to Strowman not having been cleared from the elbow surgery he had at the latter part of 2018.

I am glad Strowman is out of this match because - if it is Rollins chasing Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title into Mania - this would mean The Monster Among Men would have had to once again come up short against Lesnar.

Either that or leave the match with a decision, but not the strap.

This is a guess on my part, but the obvious choice to replace Strowman as Universal Championship contender is Finn Balor.

The company has been building him up lately and makes the most sense to me considering he was the first-ever Universal Champion (something the commentary team pointed out on Saturday night during NXT UK TakeOver) and is another name who says he wants the Universal Champion at WrestleMania (Unlike Rollins and Lashley, he didn't narrow the focus to Lesnar).

    1. I am not going to pat myself on the back for that one because you could guess that Balor was being built up for weeks and once it became clear Lesnar .vs. Strowman wasn't happening, Balor was the obvious pick.

With that said, as soon as Cena's music hit during the Vince McMahon promo, I thought 'Oh damn, I didn't think of him!'

    2. Hey man so do you think that there's any actual chance of a Demon Finn toppling Lesnar? Or just a strong showing?

    3. I don't think we'll see Demon Finn because I don't think Balor will win because Rollins challenging Lesnar for the title is the reported plan.

  2. Do you think it’s worth backing Braun for the Rumble now? Not to win, but maybe most eliminations or final four?

If he no-shows the event it’s going to weaken him even further.

    1. I backed Strowman a couple of months ago. He would have to move back into my 'Dark Horse'position, but I am not that confident.

Your point about him weakened by a no-show makes sense, but he's also going to be weakened if he is in and doesn't win after being forced out of the title match last night.

      It's a tough call.

    2. I agree but that $29 for most eliminations is really tempting....

Also if they go with the Ronda-Becky-Charlotte triple threat at mania, any chance Moon could win the women’s rumble? Asuka would need a dance partner and she was the one opponent Moon could never topple in NXT (I also think Asuka might have eliminated Moon from last year’s RR)

    3. Yeah, if it isn't Becky or Charlotte, Ember to do so and challenge Asuka would be the next one on my list.

Somebody I speak with about WWE suggested the same idea to me a few weeks ago.
