KOTR 2019 Betting: After Week 2

The first round of the 2019 King of the Ring tournament has now been completed following this week's rounds of matches on both Monday Night Raw and Smackdown. Now that we know the results of the last four matches in the round, I've taken a look back at some of Kambi's specials for the tournament to see how they should be settled.

Starting with the results in order.

Ricochet beats Drew McIntyre
Ricochet won against Drew McIntyre to progress to the quarter finals. For the first time in this tournament, Kambi published match markets for all of this week's bouts and opened with the eventual winner a 6/5 outsider. As you'll be able to see in the table below, the punters initially backed the underdog as he slipped into 23/20. A day later, the odds for a McIntyre win moved in. This was repeated a couple of days after that and ended up with Ricochet out at 8/5 before the market closed on Monday evening.

The result means that a specials market, in which customers could gamble on McIntyre's 'Stage of Elimation' will settle with the 'Quarter Finals or Before' option settled as the winner.

The selection started off at 3/1 before the brackets were announced. Once the matches were revealed Kambi closed the market and - when it reappeared - the selection was EVS.

Even after WWE began to hype up McIntyre as the favourite - which should have been a red flag - the odds for him to be the 'Tournament Winner' began to slide.  And - as a result - the eventual winner began to drift out closing a 13/10 on Monday.

With McIntyre the favourite to win Raw's side of the bracketing, Kambi had a proposition market which allowed customers to wager on him versus any other member of Raw's roster being the finalist from the red brand.

The 'No' to McIntyre being the 'Finalist from Raw' started out as an 8/13 favourite a week ago, but was moved out to 7/10 within three days after the 'Yes' was backed from 23/20 into EVS.

Baron Corbin beats The Miz
The final first round match from the Raw side of the tournament bracket had Baron Corbin progress with a decision over The Miz.

Corbin started out as a 2/7 fave when Kambi released a match market last week. However, the eventual winner was backed into 1/5 and remained that way right up to the time of its closure.

With Miz not progressing from the first round, a market in which customers could have placed bets on who had the best finishing position out of Miz and Elias, his selection will become the loser.

Elias, who progressed to the quarter finals with a win over Kevin Owens on last week's edition of Smackdown, was 19/20 when the market was created before matches were announced. It was 1/5 when it was republished and remained that way all the way to Monday evening.

I'll get to another 'Best Finishing Position' market in moment. For the time being, I'll concentrate on The Miz's 'Stage of Elimination special.

It was installed August 16th but didn't remain available for long as WWE revealed the brackets not long after it was published and the market was taken down. It did not return.

The Corbin result also means that the 'Best Finishing Position' head-to-head, which had him paired off against Drew McIntyre, will settle with Corbin winning.

When the market was initially installed, Corbin was a 19/10 outsider to McIntyre's 7/20. His price was snipped when the market was republished a week ago, but closed with the eventual winner at 13/10.

Ali beats Buddy Murphy
Ali was initially a 21/20 outsider to beat Buddy Murphy in their match-up. He was soon pushed out to 23/20 after Murphy was backed into 8/13 from 4/6 within the first day. From there, however, it was Ali as the eventual winner returned to 21/20 and was then slashed into 13/25 by Monday morning.

The market closed with Ali still at the aforementioned 13/25.

As a result of Buddy Murphy's loss, Cedric Alexander will be the winning selection in a market which had Murphy and Alexander competing for the 'Best Finishing Position'.

Both wrestlers were at 17/20 on August 16th (before the brackets were revealed) and then, after Alexander had progressed with a win over Sami Zayn on last week's Raw, he was snipped into 4/5.

Murphy appears to have been backed sometime before Saturday morning as both wrestlers were moved back to 17/20, but - by Monday morning - Alexander's price had dropped to 13/20.

Buddy Murphy's 'Stage of Elimination' market is another that didn't return after having been taken down shortly after WWE revealed the tournament bracket.

Any bets on Murphy to be 'Eliminated in Round 1' before the announcement should be settled at odds of 21/20.

Chad Gable beats Shelton Benjamin
The Chad Gable .vs. Shelton Benjamin match saw the eventual winner - Gable - backed from 7/20 into 1/5 between Wednesday and Friday. However, the last move came - surprisingly - in favour of Shelton Benjamin as he was moved down from 3/1 into 5/2 by Monday morning.

Therefore, Gable closed as a 1/4 favourite.

Kambi had the correct head-to-head when it comes to its 'Best Finishing Position' market as the bookies paired off Gable with his former tag team partner, Benjamin.

When the market was installed, Gable was an 8/13 favourite over Benjamin's 23/20.

The market was taken down along with the rest when WWE published the tournament bracket, but that's mainly because of there being a match winner market available for their meeting.

Shelton Benjamin's 'Stage of Elimination' market was not republished, but any bets on him being 'Eliminated in Round 1' that were placed before WWE revealed the bracket should pay out at 11/20.

I'll publish another one of these updates once I've watched the quarter final matches next week.
