KOTR 2019 Betting: After Week 1

The initial half of the first round of King of the Ring 2019 tournament matches have now been completed, so I thought I'd look back at Kambi's 'Stage of Elimination' markets to see what the prices were for those who haven't progressed.

Cesaro was the first casualty of the tournament after losing to Samoa Joe on Monday night. His market had the options to wager on him leaving the tournament 'in Round 1', the 'Quarter or Semi Final' or to be a finalist.

The selection for a first round elimination was a 7/10 favourite, so the bookies had this one spot on.

The second first round match saw Sami Zayn stumble against Cedric Alexander. Just like with the Cesaro market, the customers had the choice of betting on Zayn departing the tournament at stage one, in the quarter or semi finals or to make it to the final.

Kambi had the 'Eliminated in Round 1' selection at 21/20. The eventual winner was behind 'Quarter or Semi Final' which was 3/4 and the third option was 15/2.

The first losing participant in Smackdown's side of the bracketing was Apollo Crews, who lost to Andrade.

The bookies felt that Crews would go early as they had given 13/25 pricing to the 'Eliminated in Round 1' selection. They had the 'Quarter or Semi Final' at 11/10 and the option to bet on Crews making it to Clash of Champions was 20s.

The first of the big surprises, from a betting perspective, was Kevin Owens' loss to Elias last night.

Owens' market differed from the three above as the bookies were accepting wagers on the wrestler dropping out in the 'Quarter Finals or Before', to be in the 'Semi Final or a Losing Finalist' or the 'Tournament Winner'.

I feel it's safe to conclude the oddsmakers felt Owens would be at least a finalist as the middle selection was a 1/2 favourite and were offering 4s on him to become King. The eventual winner turned out to be the 9/4 selection.
