Observer Star Rating Betting Results For Nights 8-11 Of The G1 Climax 30

With the next issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter due to be released tomorrow, I thought I'd publish an update concerning Kambi's star ratings markets that would have been settled following Dave Meltzer's reviews of nights eight to eleven of this year's G1 Climax.

Before I get to the most recent settlements - there was a market that had yet to be graded when I wrote about the star ratings results from nights five to seven because it was a head-to-head which needed Meltzer's rating of the Tetusya Naito versus SANADA bout from night eight.

The bout was up against Tomohiro Ishii versus Shingo Takagi, which scored four-and-a-half stars from the reviewer.

Naito and SANADA scored three-and-three-quarters, so - if the market was still ungraded before last week's issue was published - then Ishii .vs. Takagi was the winning selection in that head-to-head.

Now onto the other markets.

Nights 9 and 10
The bookmakers published three markets for nights nine and ten. Two were head-to-heads and the other was a prop which asked whether the margin of victory between the highest rated match and the next best would be at half a star or more.

In the first head-to-head, Kota Ibushi .vs. Will Ospreay was in competition with 'Any Other Match' from nights nine and ten. The bout was given four-and-a-half stars and this was the most stars Dave Meltzer awarded for those two nights of action. However, there was a joint winner with Tomohiro Ishii and Taichi both getting four-and-a-half stars on the same night.

The tie meant that 'Same Star Rating' was the winning selection in that market. It was available at odds of 39/20.

With Ishii .vs. Taichi and Ibushi .vs. Ospreay both getting the highest number of stars in Meltzer's reviews of nights nine and ten, the focus was then on the next best match - or matches - of those nights in order to see how the 'Margin Of Victory' proposition market would be settled.

The prop asked customers whether there would be a gap of at least half a star between the top matches and those that may have came second.

The next best rating, under the four-and-a-half stars, was four stars. It was given to two matches - the Kazuchika Okada versus Minoru Suzuki bout from night nine and SANADA versus Zack Sabre Jr. from night ten.

This means that 'Yes' was the winning selection in the prop. As you can see, the winning selection was 19/20 to those who may have wanted to gamble.

As noted, SANADA's win over ZSJ earned four stars in Meltzer's review. This was important to the settlement of the other head-to-head market from the two nights.

The four stars for SANADA .vs. ZSJ were enough to beat the number that was given to Hiroshi Tanahashi's victory over KENTA, which received three-and-three-quarters.

The winning selection was a 17/20 favourite.

Night 11
Kambi published some head-to-heads and a proposition market for nights 11 and 12. However, Dave Meltzer hasn't given star ratings to any of the matches from the twelfth night as of the time of writing. Therefore, the only market I can cover for now is the head-to-head which had two bouts from night ten in competition.

Kazuchika Okada versus Jeff Cobb received three-and-a-half stars from the writer. This was three quarters shorter than what Meltzer gave to Will Ospreay's win over Minoru Suzuki.

The four-and-a-quarter stars for Ospreay .vs. Suzuki meant that it was the winning selection in the head-to-head. As you can see - in the table above - the winning selection was a 9/10 favourite when the market was available.

Over/Under Results From Nights 8-11
The release of Dave Meltzer's star ratings for the matches from nights eight to eleven meant that Kambi settled its over/under markets for a selection of matches from those cards. Here are the bouts that had lines created for them, their respective lines, the stars that each match received as well as the betting results.
