Rumble Finish Scenarios That Might Scare Some To Death

The following tweet was posted by the Wrestle Votes account in the early hours of this morning.

WrestleVotes' Royal Rumble 2021 Note

Bearing in mind I am locked into thinking that Daniel Bryan and Edge are the correct favourite and second-favourite to win Sunday's battle royal (WWE has been consistent in telling us Bryan hasn't won a battle royal and Edge gave a strong promo on Monday's Raw to make me think he also has a chance of winning), I thought I would entertain some ideas for an hour or so and see where this post takes me.

So - here goes, in no particular order.

Bill Goldberg Doesn't Win Against McIntyre, But Wins The Royal Rumble
On the most recent episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, Drew McIntyre dedicated his match against Bill Goldberg to people who have been affected by the Covid Pandemic. It would be quite crappy if he doesn't win the match now, no?

This scenario I've underlined above would mean Goldberg doesn't win (I am being careful by not stating that Goldberg will 'lose' just in case Miz happens to take the fall. More on that in a moment).

Goldberg would then go on to win the Royal Rumble later in the night. Doing this would set up the match against Roman Reigns that was meant to have happened at last year's WrestleMania.

The Miz Wins The WWE Championship, John Morrison Wins The Royal Rumble
The Miz has teased he'll cash in the Money in the Bank contract against Drew McIntyre and/or Bill Goldberg in the build for the Universal Championship match.

Miz's most recent claim is that he'll cash in the title shot AFTER the McIntyre/Goldberg clash. Seeing as he's the heel - so his word isn't bond - he could get away with doing what he did last month, by cashing in the title shot in the middle of the Universal Championship match, or he could leave the contract's execution for another time.

Should he cash in, and win the title, I would consider John Morrison closing the PPV as the Royal Rumble winner to be something that would scare the death out of a source.

With that said, Morrison winning the Rumble is something I've had as an outside shot ever since Miz won the Money in the Bank briefcase.

Miz being in one of the key matches on WrestleMania might not seem crazy when you factor in that it'll be the second event to be available on NBC's streaming platform - Peacock. The point here is Miz is associated with NBC, not only through WWE, but also with his reality series Miz and Mrs.

As of the time of writing, and to tie this idea into gambling, most sportsbooks have Morrison as a 100/1 longshot to win the battle royal.

Sheamus Wins The Rumble
Would Sheamus winning the Royal Rumble - to set up a Drew McIntyre versus Sheamus match at WrestleMania - be something that the source would be dreading?

I'm just throwing it out there as I wagered on Sheamus sometime in November when the company started focusing on he and McIntyre being friends. I believe I have him at 66/1. As of today, he's in the thirties at most books.

The Announced 30th Participant Isn't The 30th Participant
On Saturday night, WWE Backstage on Fox Sports 1 will reveal who the thirtieth entrant of the Royal Rumble will be.

Only, that person will not make it into the match. He'll be blindsided by someone else who will go on to win the Royal Rumble.

Therefore, the controversy will be that the person that we know was not meant to be in the Rumble match is not the actual winner.

WrestleVotes noted weeks ago that the then reported plan for WrestleMania was a three way match consisting of Drew McIntyre, Keith Lee and Brock Lesnar.

What if a triple threat plan is still on the table (it doesn't have to be the three names listed) and Sunday, or rather Saturday, is the first step to getting there?

The 30th Participant Wins The Royal Rumble Before He Enters The Match
As a friend of mine pointed out to me today - the person under the WrestleVotes account didn't state that the proposed winner was scaring the source to death. Instead, it's the actual match finish that appears to be causing dread.

Initially, a theatrical finish with The Fiend came to mind. However, another idea sprung to me.

For those of you who don't follow New Japan Pro Wrestling, there was a battle royal earlier this year - on night one of Wrestle Kingdom - in which the final four men would be declared the winners. A comedy wrestler - Toru Yano - was the final man to enter the match. However, by his time to compete, the match already had three people remaining.

The Rumble idea would be along those lines, but it would require the twenty-eighth and twenty-ninth elimination occurring before the thirtieth entrant is official. They'd do this by falling out at the same time.

This isn't a new idea. I have seen people suggest this outcome many times over the years. However, this could be the best time to do it as the lack of a live audience would allow WWE to manufacture the reaction. Had it been done in a regular setting, there's no guarantee it would be received well.

* * *

There's a strong chance that none of the ideas I've suggested will happen on Sunday. I just thought I'd spend an hour or so coming up with random ideas that I have thought about while betting on the Rumble over the last eleven months.
