How The WrestleMania 31 Prop Bets Fared

With WrestleMania 31 now in the books, I thought I would take a look back at the side bets that were available this past weekend and work out the winners from the duds.

I'll start off with a dud and work up.

CM Punk To Make An Appearance

The chance of this one happening was extremely slim, especially after all the animosity between both parties.
The only sportsbook taking wagers on Punk being at WrestleMania was Betfair.com. The firm had the likelihood down as a 5/1 shot.

All 5 Titles To Change Hands On The Night

Betfair was the only sportsbook with this prop. 6/1 was the offer. However, the card only contained four title matches. Even if there were five, it would have lost on the pre-show as Tyson Kidd & Cesaro retained their tag team straps.

Andre the Giant MVP Speech

Another Betfair offering asked the customers to bet on the winner of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal to thank or dedicate his win to Andre. Odds on this happening were set at 4/1 and it did not happen.

Will There Be A Guest Commentator At Any Point In The Night?

I liked this one. Betfair had 5/1 that there would be at least one match where a guest commentator was brought in. I didn't bet on it myself, but there was so many possibilities like having Maria Menounos out during the Divas tag team match. Jon Gruden could have been brought in during the Andre the Giant battle royal as they had him doing the talent evaluations. Even Jim Ross was in town, so I cannot fault anyone for considering this one as a possibility.

The Length Of The Undertaker's Entrance

This one was available with both the 5Dimes Sportsbook and Betfair. Both companies set the time from the opening gong of Undertaker's theme right to the bell to start the match.

Both companies had set the line at 4 minutes and 45 seconds. If you had taken the over, you would have profited from your wager. Thanks to one of the visitors to this blog, whose name I haven't got as he commented anonymously, he noted that the time elapsed from the opening noise to the bell was approximately five minutes and twenty-three seconds.

Falls From The Ladder

I may not have counted the minutes of The Undertaker's entrance, but I did try to count the number of 'falls' from the ladder there were in the WWE Intercontinental Championship match that started off the main card.

Betfair had set the line at 16.5. Once again, if you had gone 'Over', you would have been a winner.

I counted well over 17 falls. It was around 22 or 23 (don't quote me on it!)

Will The Rock Make An In-Ring Appearance?

This one was available with 5Dimes, PaddyPower.com, and Betfair

I think it's safe to assume you know what happened and the bettors who punted on 'Yes' were the winners on the night.

Rollins To Cash In His MITB Briefcase

The option to bet on Seth Rollins to cash in his Money in the Bank title shot was available at 5Dimes, Paddy Power and bwin.com and we all know how the event finished.

Backers who took 'Yes' would have been celebrating as the show closed, just like the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

  1. I had a good run with this one. I picked HHH from the outset along with the MITB cash in. I missed out on the Big Show, though!

    1. I'm sorry I doubted you on the Hunter win! Great call.

  2. After the wrestlemania results I still question the 'smart money' moving lines because an example of this is the Big Show winning and just before the show he was -1000 and with rollins losing as well even though he was -2100 and the cash in odds were pick em so if there was so callled money these odds would have been dead cert! Any comments David?

    1. Hey Kieran,

Big Show's odds dropped from +1600 at the start of the day. They wouldn't have plummeted like that for nothing.

Think back to the Lesnar/Undertaker odds. Once they went down, the regular bettors moved the money back to Undertaker favourite. This could have been the case here.

The Rollins finish was kept quiet with only a handful knowing leading in to Sunday.

Rollins and Reigns were informed of the finish during The Rock promo as this was when Lesnar, Reigns, Rollins and Michael Hayes met to go over the new finish (this was reported in this week's issue of the Wrestling Observer). By that point, odds on a cash in had been taken off the board, so that's why we can't base anything on the MITB market.

    2. So do you think Rollins was meant to win against Orton but since he was going to cash in that they changed that result to Orton win because it wouldnt't make sense of Rollins winning and then cashing in its always the other way?

    3. No - Orton was meant to win because it made sense for what happened later in the show.

If they were keeping tight-lipped over the finish to the show, they would have had to keep the Orton/Rollins decision just as guarded because it would have been a giveaway of sorts.

    4. Rollins cashing in wasn't a last minute decision, by the way.
