In this post, I'll run through all the prop bets available to customers of both the Betfair and Paddy Power Sportsbooks and give my thoughts on whether it's worth having a flutter on them.
A Referee to be knocked out in any match on the show
This prop bet is being offered by the traders from Betfair. They have the odds set at 5/2. This has been the price since the market was installed on Friday night.
I don't usually bet on the referee markets that have been put up in the past. However, I think tonight could be the night it pays off. There are a few bouts on the card that might call for an unconscious referee spot.
Money in the Bank briefcase to be used as a weapon in Sheamus .vs. Randy Orton
This is another exotic that has been drawn up by the team at Betfair. They have priced it up at 7/4 and, as with the above market, it has remained stationary since they initially went up.
I haven't a feeling either way on this one. I could see it happening, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Sheamus to cash in the Money in the Bank contract during the show
When I first became aware that this market was published by Paddy Power yesterday, the firm had 'Yes' out at 4/1. In the day since, there appears to have been wrestling fans betting on the cash-in as it's now 3/1. In the same period, the 'No' has gone from 1/8 to 1/6.
Even though the shift has been in the outside option of a cash-in, I'm of the opinion the cash-in won't happen for a while yet. I don't like the odds, but it'll have to be 'No'.
Total number of title changes during the show
Betfair is offering its customers one of four options: none, one, two or three. Here's how the odds looked when they were originally published:
None 9/2, One 1/1, Two 8/11 or Three 7/2
They are now:
None 9/2, One 10/11, Two 4/6 or Three 7/2
The fans have evidently gone with one or two. I can't see anything wrong with that as I'm hoping The New Day and Kevin Owens win their respective bouts tonight.
Total number of German suplexes executed in the Seth Rollins .vs. Brock Lesnar match
The Betfair traders have set the line at 5.5. Customers can then bet on the 'Over' or 'Under'. 'Over' has been set at 8/11 and 'Under' is EVENS.
Very tough call. I can see Lesnar dominating his foe throughout the match before something happens that causes Rollins to get a cheap win. The line seems spot on to me, but - if I had to bet - I'd hold my nose and take the 8/11.
The Authority to interfere in the Seth Rollins .vs. Brock Lesnar match
Paddy Power is offering this and has 'Yes' at 1/2 with 'No' 6/4. When the odds were first brought up, the 'No' was 7/4. This means the fans/bettors have been putting their money on no Authority involvement during this match.
I think it'll be a 'No', but I wouldn't bet on it.
A SummerSlam match to be announced during the show
Betfair is offering 7/4 that a SummerSlam match will be announced during tonight's event. This is an interesting bet as WWE has done this for some of the most recent PPVs as a way to entice the WWE Network's free month sign-ups to stick around longer.
I can see this cashing in and have bet on it.
Dean Ambrose to make an in-ring appearance
Paddy Power is accepting wagers on Ambrose showing up tonight. I suppose the idea behind this is to play into the rumour that The Shield will reunite during the main event.
The 'Yes' option was first available at 1/8 and is now 1/3 indicating that people have been betting against him turning up. The 'No' has moved from 4/1 to 15/8.
Once again, it's not a bet I'd place. However, if I had to choose, I'd go with 'Yes'. The company does have a spare spot on the card following the scratching of the Intercontinental Championship three-way. They might replace it with a last-minute Ambrose bout.
Sting to make an in-ring appearance
Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has gone on the record with the news that Sting will be a part of next month's SummerSlam. On today's episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, he noted that what ever they have planned for him involves Bray Wyatt.
The 'Yes' was originally 7/4 but has drifted out to 11/5 with 'No' going 2/5 to 3/10.
The re-adjustment makes sense. I think Sting's return will be kept off until at least this Monday.
The Undertaker to make an in-ring appearance
This is the big one, and a prop that is available from both Paddy Power and Betfair.
Both sportsbooks published these markets because there has been a lot of talk surrounding The Undertaker returning in time for SummerSlam. He has been brought up constantly on WWE TV, so all signs point to him returning. I've noted in previous posts that he should be brought back on this show to (a) reward the Network subscribers that have signed up based on the reports and (b) to make those that didn't sign up regret that they missed out and sign up out of curiosity.
For what it's worth, Paddy Power's 'Yes' option has gone from 6/4 to 4/9 with the 'No' moving from 1/2 to 5/4. Betfair - on the other hand - is only offering 'Yes' and you can double your stake as the firm is offering EVENS.
I hope you've enjoyed this tour through the side bets being offered on tonight's show. Good luck and enjoy.
