The traders at the Irish bookies have set up markets for five wrestlers. I've written about these bets in previous posts, but will dedicate today's post looking at where the fans have been betting. I also have some additional insight that I didn't have yesterday.
Kurt Angle
Angle's name being offered to make an in-ring appearance on Sunday was a bit out there. He's still contracted to TNA. Even if he was let go, he'd still have to work out a ninety day no compete (I think). To cut a long story short - there's no way at all he'll be at SummerSlam on Sunday.
The punters evidently agree with this as his odds have gone from 1/16 to 1/25 in three days.
As far as the 'Yes, he will make an in-ring appearance' - the odds have drifted from 13/2 to 17/2 in the same period.
Sting
I knew there would be a Sting prop bet doing the rounds this month. The reason why is because he was originally scheduled to be in a match on the SummerSlam card. For what it's worth, I have bet on Sting making an appearance because I have a feeling that the plan they originally had for him for Sunday might have been pushed back for the Night of Champions show in September. This is just a guess, though.
As for the betting - both 'Yes' and 'No' were 5/6 on the 17th August. They now show 'Yes' at 8/11 and 'No' at EVENS. Fans have been betting on Sting showing up.
Kane
This is an interesting one. In Monday's post I wrote 'could he be involved in the John Cena .vs. Seth Rollins finish? What about the main event?'. Put it like this, he has a good reason to show up and mess up a finish of either match.
The 'Yes' has been backed from 7/4 into 6/5. 'No' is now healthier moving from 4/11 to 4/7.
'Stone Cold' Steve Austin
This one was puzzling when I first saw the market up yesterday. I didn't expect him to be a part of SummerSlam unannounced. However, when I was reading the Wrestling Observer Newsletter this morning, it notes that Austin will be at a WWE 2K16 party tonight. The city of this party? New York!
I have bet on the 'No' but now feeling bettors' remorse. If I knew he was going to be doing work for the WWE's video game three days before the pay-per-view, I would have passed on the bet.
With that said, the 'No' has been the option the customers have punted on. It has gone from 5/4 to 5/6 since yesterday. The 'Yes' is now 5/6 but had been 4/7.
The Rock
The odds for and against an in-ring appearance by The Rock have remained stationary. The 'Yes' is 4/11 and 'No' is 15/8.
Roman Reigns has teased that he knows when Rock will return next. Dave Meltzer, in this week's Observer, writes that he doesn't know if it is happening but it had been 'hinted' to him that there were talks a few weeks ago.
Looks like the odds are just about right for this one.
I'll return over the next few days with another look through these markets to see whether further rumours prompt any more changes.
If you'd like to bet on any of these markets, you'll find them under 'Appearances' on Paddy Power's WWE Betting Page.
