Earlier today, it was brought to my attention that a Royal Rumble prop market that is available from 5Dimes.com has shortened.
The prop is the one where customers can wager on Rey Mysterio's record of 1 hour 2 minutes and 12 seconds being broken or not.
When the market was initially priced up, the traders were offering +1,000 that someone will break the record in 2016. This price did get backed and was available at around +400 as far back as two days ago.
Now - however - is a different story.
As of today, the odds on Mysterio's feat being quashed is being offered at -135 while the 'Not Broken' odds are -105.
I feel it is too early to even consider this as being anything more than regular bettors.
When a similar market first became available at the end of December, I suggested the possibility that the record could be broken this year because Rey Mysterio is no longer with the company and they may want to put the record on a new person moving forward.
Another two things that have strengthened the idea that this year's Royal Rumble could include a person who lasts a record breaking time are (a) Roman Reigns is going to enter at number one and will almost surely be in the final two and (b) there might be enough room for a longer match due to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship not being defended in a regular singles match on the undercard.
With all that said, I can also see the match being much shorter. I predict there might be a spot or two where Reigns is in the ring alone waiting for the next entrant and - if Triple H or another surprise does come out in the thirty slot - I would not be shocked if this will end up leading to a quicker finish for the surprise element.
So, I think either option is still in play even with the odds dropping in favour of the record being broken.
If you're in the UK or another country where you're unable to place a bet with 5Dimes, the Betfair Sportsbook is also offering this special. It's 3/1 on the 'Yes' with Betfair.com.
If you are a 5Dimes client, the prop market can be found just under other Rumble markets on the betting board at 5Dimes.com.
