Speculative Rumble Punting: Three Wagers On Mr. McMahon

Earlier this week, I was chatting to someone who was interested in the Royal Rumble participation odds from Betfair.com. He asked for my thoughts on a handful of the names on the list and I offered my opinion on their chances being involved in the battle royal.

Vince McMahon's name came up and - at that time - I wasn't high on the idea that he would be inserted into the match. My reasoning was because of his age and possibly being unable to take a bump over the top rope and onto the floor.

We moved on and discussed other possible entrants. However, when I was looking through the list yesterday afternoon, I backtracked and began to fantasy book how they could place Mr. McMahon into the match.

Yes, it's the dreaded 'Fantasy Book' term. Look away now if you dislike the concept (and I don't blame you!)..

When I discounted the chance of Mr. McMahon being in the battle royal, I did so with the thought that he would end up having to fail at some point. I did not envision him winning. I still don't, to be fair. But the odds have started to draw my attention more now than they have previously.

You see, the Royal Rumble is now set up for Roman Reigns to lose his WWE World Heavyweight Championship. It's near a guarantee (or should that be guaran-damn-tee?) that The Authority will wind up in panic mode as the match is beyond the mid-point. I can now picture Mr. McMahon being one of the later entrants in an attempt to do what a number of other wrestlers before him were unable to do.

I still think Triple H will end up being involved in eliminating Reigns either as a competitor or as an outside interjection. However, I have placed small stake bets on the following:

£2 on Vince McMahon to be a Royal Rumble participant at 33/1 with Betfair.com

I'm evidently not alone with the 'McMahon to be in the Rumble' idea as he had originally been priced at 100/1 in this market.

I have also gone two steps further with this by taking some incredible odds on a McMahon win and for him to be in the final four.

£2 Vince McMahon to win the Royal Rumble at 2,000/1 Unibet.com
£2 Vince McMahon to be in the final four 500/1 Unibet.com

The Unibet odds have been cut overnight. He's now 500/1 to win and 100/1 to be in the final four.

If there is any chance one of these three bets turns to be a winner, it's obviously the Betfair wager as Mr. McMahon has been an antagonist to Roman Reigns since the latter part of 2015. Adding himself to the Royal Rumble would play into the storyline of The Authority going all-out to take the strap from Reigns. And then, if McMahon is unable to stop Reigns in the Rumble, this could lead to Triple H showing up and doing what his father-in-law couldn't.

Odds correct as of 11am GMT today.

The Royal Rumble Participation prop odds can be found under 'Special Bets' at Betfair.com.

The Unibet Rumble markets are found under 'WWE' on the A-Z menu at Unibet.com.

Don't forget, 888Sport.com and 32Red.com offer identical prices to Unibet.

  1. I was one that got him at 100/1 at Betfair. Its unlikely he will be in it but my max stake was 1.33 so it was worth taking a chance on because of the price.

    1. Good job getting the 100/1. I should have struck sooner but, but like you wrote, it is unlikely but the odds are worth it for s laugh.
