AJ Styles Seeing Action In MITB 2016 Betting

Wrestling fans have jumped onto the odds for AJ Styles in the short time that prices for his Money in the Bank 2016 singles match against John Cena have been available.

He is now a short-priced 2/5 favourite at both Betfair.com and 888Sport.com. This is a drop from 8/15 and 1/2 respectively.

I believe one of the reasons behind this move is the anticipation that Finn Balor will make his main roster debut during next week's PPV and assist his former Bullet Club colleague against Cena.

Balor making his way up from NXT has been one of the most runoured things on the Internet for months. I had guessed he would remain with NXT until after the most recent TakeOver and current UK tour, which ends next week. It's also worth acknowledging that he has not wrestled in any matches that have been taped for upcoming weeks of NXT TV. He does, however, have an in-ring interaction with Shinsuke Nakamura that hints the pair competing against each other in NXT.

Another more simple explanation as to why Styles' odds have fallen is that he should go over in the first match of the program.

If you still have hope that John Cena will somehow win a week from Sunday, then it's Betfair with the better odds as he's 15/8 there.

The odds can be found under 'Special Bets' on the sportsbook menu at Betfair.com.

  1. I got Styles at 1.53 And it seems is the best you can get from it..silly me to think bookies would understimate styles and silly me too for thinking fan money would land on Cena
Fan money seems to be smarter and guided by a pretty good logic tbh

    1. Fan money is probably more prevalent for the bigger PPVs, such as WM. I recall Lesnar started out with 5Dimes as a mild favorite against Ambrose, but by the time fan money had landed you could him @ 3 odds!

    2. The few bookies I know are wrestling fans just like us, so sometimes it's just a hope that their opinions differ from mine. Just like with any other sort of sport really.

  2. Just read a more detailed report from the NXT tapings and they teased a future match with Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura. I've added this detail to the post above.

  3. I doubt styles wins this, that's why I'm hoping 5 dimes puts odds up before they start to fall. They are making styles look way too strong against cena for him to once again beat cena at MITB? I think not...
