WWE Battleground 2016 Betting : To Concede Defeat Follow-Up

On Monday July 11th, I published  a post titled WWE Battleground 2016 Betting : To Concede Defeat where I wrote about a bet I had placed on the main event of this weekend's pay-per-view.

At the time of writing, I had a feeling that the match would end up with two wrestlers pinning another. I therefore opted to back Ambrose to concede defeat. My reasoning was based on the reports that Seth Rollins versus Roman Reigns is one of the matches on the books for SummerSlam 2016.

This week of TV, and especially the alignment of the brands post-draft, has now made me reconsider how the match will end.

I still believe there will be a disputed finish with two wrestlers pinning the other. However, I think - for the world title to end up being divided - Dean Ambrose has to be one of the wrestlers pinning the third man.

He's Smackdown representative in the match. It would need a Smackdown wrestler (Ambrose) and somebody from Raw  (Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins) to pull off the double pin and end with two victors claiming their right to the WWE Title. The goal here is to have two brands claiming to have the champion leading to the introduction of a new world title.

The market had opened with Roman Reigns a 2/5 favourite to be the fall guy in the match. Next up was Seth Rollins at 2/1. Dean Ambrose was 4/1.

This market has since been taken down. The last prices I noted was from July 14th and it had Reigns 1/2, Rollins 5/2 and Ambrose also at 5/2. The action points to the fans jumping on Ambrose to be the guy.

As noted, I think the bet will end up being unsuccessful now because it does not make sense for two Raw wrestlers to pin the Smackdown employee.

I don't even know who out of Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins I would even pick if the market had been up right now. Rollins has had his shoulders on the mat for two nights in the row (okay, Monday was a draw, but he was still pinned) and Reigns lost clean at Money in the Bank.

If I'm to go by how the two were positioned last night during the draft, then I would not be surprised if it is Reigns doing the honours on Sunday night.

    1. I can't lie, I have been tempted myself. But I think they'll do the two guys pinning the other spot.

Or just have one Raw guy pin the other Raw guy and then Ambrose/Smackdown can argue that he wasn't pinned/submitted for the title.

    2. For the first time in ages WWE serves up a main event where there's no sign of what direction they're headed. Like Mr Dickens and Mr Taylor, I've been tempted at the price as well... backed Reigns @ 5,85 with 5Dimes and am pleased to see his odds shorten to 4,95 in the last 6 hours.

    3. Come on, you can't have forgotten all about last month's main event already!?
