Settling The 2017 Men's MITB Cash-In Specials

After watching last night's episode of WWE Smackdown, I published a post where I mentioned that Baron Corbin had unsuccessfully cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and noted that I would get around to writing up a post where I go through all of the men's Money in the Bank specials that have been available to people who like to bet on pro wrestling.

In this post, I'll do what I promised and go through the markets that were available both leading up to this year's Money in the Bank pay-per-view and after it.

Show Of Cash-In
The Kambi Oddsmakers published a market where customers could have a bet on the show that the briefcase holder would cash in his immediate title shot. The options available were 'Raw/Smackdown' or a choice to back an event that's held on Pay-Per-View, the WWE Network or 'Any Other', which would cover house shows.

The winning selection is highlighted in the table above. It started off at 3/1, was backed into 11/5 by July 30th but had landed back at 3s a couple of days ago.

'PPV/WWE Network (Or Any Other)' was backed as SummerSlam was approaching. This obviously points to punters predicting that the cash-in would occur on August 20th. Which leads to...

Date Of Cash-In
Kambi and Paddy Power had markets available where their customers could have had a punt on the time-frame when the cash-in took place. As both oddsmakers had different periods of time, I'll go through each one individually. I'll start with Kambi.

Just like in the above market, there's a strong indication that the customers were betting on a SummerSlam cash-in as the odds were dipping. However, they were also evidently siding with the two other periods after SummerSlam as the 'Between the 1st Day After SummerSlam But Before Survivor Series' and 'Between Survivor Series But Before Royal Rumble' came in.
The bookies had extended the 'Between 1st Day After MITB But Before SummerSlam' for the past three times I tracked the odds. This is mainly because it was the selection that was running out of time. It ended up being the winning selection on its final day of being in play.

Most of Paddy Power's market covered two month periods.

The 'August 1st to September 30th 2017' selection was available at 9/2 from the day it first went live right up to the moment it closed ahead of the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

Result Of Cash-In
Paddy Power and Kambi both set up markets where clients could have a punt on the cash-in result. The options with both sites were 'Successful' or 'Unsuccessful' (Obviously!).

Paddy Power's market was only up in the weeks leading into the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. The punters had evidently backed an unsuccessful cash-in as the oddsmakers had cut it from 9/2 into 4/1 by June 12th. It stayed at 4s right up to when the market was taken down a few hours before the PPV.

Kambi's result of cash-in market had been available - on and off - for many weeks. You can see how I tracked the odds in the table below.

The eventual winning selection opened at 3/1, but went out to 5/1. I was one of the customers who backed it at 5s with the reasoning being that the  first women's Money in the Bank cash-in should be a success so thought it wouldn't harm things if whoever won the male contract failed in his quest.

The betting evidently points to a similar theory as the odds for an unsuccessful cash-in was cut to 5/2, then 2/1, then 7/5 from that point.

We still have a women's Money in the Bank contract to keep an eye on. So, expect more updates about the status of those markets along the way.

That is if it hasn't been cashed in by the end of this week.
