IC Title Match Wins Match Of The Night Betting For Backlash 2018 And More

Seth Rollins' successful WWE Intercontinental Championship defence - against The Miz at WWE Backlash 2018 - was given the most stars in Dave Meltzer''s review of this past Sunday's PPV.

The bout, which opened the main card, received four-and-a-quarter stars from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's editor. This result means that anybody who backed 'Any Other Match' in a betting market where customers could predict what would end up being match of the night will have wagers settled in their favour.

The reason why 'Any Other Match' wins is because the oddsmakers priced up three options in the market for Backlash. Customers had the choice to bet on the WWE Championship match (opened 3/5, but closed 11/20), Roman Reigns .vs. Samoa Joe (opened 9/4, closed 2/1) or 'Any Other Match' (opened 6/4, closed 7/4) on the card.

You can view how I tracked the betting in the table below.

'Highest Rated Match' betting wasn't the only Wrestling Observer themed markets available last weekend. Punters could also bet on the Over/Unders that were released for all but one of the matches that took place on Sunday.

As noted, Seth Rollins versus The Miz earned four-and-a-quarter stars in the review. This means that the match went over the 3.50 line that was set by the bookies.

Nia Jax's WWE Raw Women's Championship defence against Alexa Bliss was given one-and-a-quarter stars. This fell below the line of 2.5 stars, so anybody who backed the under at 5/4 will have their bets settled in favour of that result.

Two-and-a-quarter stars were awarded to the Jeff Hardy versus Randy Orton bout for the US Championship. This was another win for the under backers as it fell below the line of 3.50 stars. The winning selection was available at 19/20 for most of the weekend.

Daniel Bryan's submission victory over Big Cass got two stars. This was yet another win for any Under backers as the line for this match was set at 3.25 Stars, with the price for the winner being 9/10.

The WWE Smackdown Women's Championship match received one star. This was yet another tick in the win column for the Unders as Kambi had set the line at two-and-a-quarter stars. The price for the Under was 5/4.

AJ Styles versus Shinsuke Nakamura, which resulted in yet another tie, was rated three-and-a-quarter stars by the reviewer. This once again fell below the oddsmakers' estimate as they had the line set at 3.75 Stars.

The gamblers evidently went for the 'Over' despite Styles and Nakamura failing to win for the 'Over' backers in their previous two meetings. Anyone who followed the trend of the 'Under' could have backed it at even money at the start or found it at a more appealing 23/20 on the night of the show.

One-and-a-half stars was awarded to Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley's tag team victory over Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. This was yet another match that fell below the line as - anybody who backed 'Under 2.75 Stars' at 6/5 - will be quids in when the market is settled.

Finally, the main event - which saw Roman Reigns get the W over Samoa Joe - was yet another win for the 'Under' as it received one-and-a-half stars. The line was 3.75, so the best option was the EVS being offered to those who wanted to go low.

Overwhelming results for the unders, if I say so myself.

The only bet I placed on the Observer markets was on Reigns versus Joe to be the match of the night. I realised as soon as I saw the opener that the bet was a loser.

I shall take it on the chin and hope the Observer markets return for next month's Money in the Bank show. If so, I'll cover them as usual.
