Sky Bet Publishes WWE Championship Market For SummerSlam

Sky Bet has installed betting odds for SummerSlam's WWE Championship clash between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe.

As of the time of writing, Styles is a 4/7 favourite to Joe's 5/4.

The challenger had opened at 6/4, but I backed him as soon as I saw him as the underdog. I strongly believe he's winning the match.

The earliest price I have for a Styles victory is 1/2.

5:26PM BST Update: They've also added a market for the Smackdown Women's Championship match. Carmella is 11/10 and Becky Lynch is 4/6.

  1. Don't you think there's a chance that AJ might be champion until2K19 game is released. Also Smackdown has more heels which means babyface champion has to defend.

    Your thoughts ?

    1. I don’t think their booking factors in who is on the cover of video games. Not one. When Punk was the champ, he was holding the title to drop to The Rock not because he happened to be that year’s cover star.

As for the babyface:heel divide - Styles will obviously rematch post-SummerSlam and then they have others that could move up heading to Mania.

  2. AJ Styles 4/7 for me

I'm going with the advertising here everything has made sense so far. I think AJ retains in a way that allows the feud to continue. Maybe Joe dominates and AJ wins with a roll up pin. Also think WWE will keep the title on Styles a little while longer to promote WWE2K19 Sales.

Plus there is nobody for Joe to defend the title against other than AJ Styles for the forseeable future so I could see this feud lasting for quite some time with Joe winning at HIAC.

    Orton - Heel
    Nakamura - Heel
    Almas - Heel
    Miz - Heel
Bryan - Tied up with Miz for the foreseeable future.
Hardy - Tied up with Orton for the foreseeable future.
Rusev - Has multiple feuds lined up for the foreseeable future vs. Aiden English and then a mixed tag match against Almas & Vega.

As for Carmella vs Becky I'm going to go with Carmella.

I don't see Camella tapping out in 3 straight singles matches to Becky Lynch (I'm including Carmella's rematch once she loses the title). Another reason why I think Carmella wins is because of Ellsworth. I'm sure WWE didn't bring Ellsworth back just to bury Asuka and then leave again. With Ellsworth's recent history with Becky Lynch I expect him to stick around during this feud and then leave again once Becky eventually beats Carmella for the title. I predict Becky wins at HIAC.

    1. Darryl,
Just something for you to think about considering all of your bets are resting on the release that was sent for Hell in a Cell:

Whenever arenas and TV/Radio stations are sent copy like this, they will always have the current champion listed as defending their title. WWE would never send out info like 'WWE Champion Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles'.

    2. Also, forgot to add that the video game is out in October - HIAC is in September. It doesn't make any sense to say they'll keep the strap on Styles to promote the video game if he has lost it by the time it's released.

If WWE really did put titles on its wrestlers because they're on the cover. I think being champ on the day the cover star is announced is far more important as the reveal gets more press than the day of release.

  3. I agree with you regarding both comments.

WWE2K19 & HIAC Advertising or not I would still back Styles as I don't see who Joe could defend the title against other than Styles over the next 3 months as every other top face has a storyline in place for the foreseeable future.

I do think Joe will become champion at some point (HIAC) however I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't.

WWE could easily keep the title on Styles until 2k19 is released and then have him drop the title to Randy Orton seeing as we haven't had that feud yet.

  4. As for KO vs Roman I don't see how this feud starts other than it surrounding the Universal Championship.

No mention of the Universal Championship in the advertising for HIAC but its such a coincidence that WWE advertised KO vs Roman a while back for HIAC and then 1 PPV event before HIAC both superstars have a chance of leaving Brooklyn as the champ.

Roman loses to Brock. KO loses to Braun. Then both superstars are in need of a win so they fight each other to see who gets buried. Just doesn't sound right to me.

    1. Like I said above, the Universal Championship isn't mentioned because neither Reigns or Kevin Owens was champion when the information was sent across.

  5. True.

I think one of them will be though especially when you weigh everything up.

Brock Lesnar is leaving WWE and it's been well documented for quite some time that Lesnar would drop the title at SummerSlam.

If Strowman cashed in then surely Reigns would go after Strowman and continue claiming to be the uncrowned Universal Champion. Face vs Face (Doesn't make sense)

I cant see past a KO cash in on Reigns after he beats Lesnar.

I could be wrong about everything and you could be right about everything lol.

We shall find out at Summerslam.

    1. I don't need to wait until SummerSlam to be proved right about WWE not spoiling future storylines in the information that is forwarded to upcoming venues. If Styles wins, this will not prove I am wrong in that regard.

    2. I should have wrote 'title changes' rather than 'storylines' above.

  6. I mean Summerslam match predictions wise. For example I predict AJ and you predict Joe.

Arena's that host WWE events have spoiled many things before. Asuka's streak ending at Mania being the biggest in recent history.

Asuka's streak ending at Wrestlemania was spoiled as the SD Live after Mania was already advertising Charlotte Flair vs Carmella for the SD Women's Championship.

    1. It didn't spoil anything. I repeat, the information sent to arenas will announce the champion at the time it's sent out.

If you don't want to compute this, that's up to you.

  7. Not trying to argue with you David and if you feel that I am then I apologise to you. Im just trying to have a debate with good intentions that's all.

Sometimes WWE and Arenas do spoil things sometimes they don't another example here.

The SSE Arena in Belfast was advertising Seth Rollins defending the Intercontinental Championship against Finn Balor on May 10th during the UK Tour.

This advertising was released before Seth Rollins won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania against the defending champion The Miz and Finn Balor.

I'm one of those people who believe that WWE knows what they want to do in the long run regarding certain superstars and matches.

Its a betting tactic that has worked out well for me so far so I'm prepared to stick with it that doesn't mean to say AJ is winning 100% because plans could change but the advertising said AJ defending against Joe so I have to go with that considering its a tactic that has worked out well for me in the past but of course it could back fire at anytime.

I shall find out whether I have made the correct decision at SummerSlam.
