The latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter was published overnight. This edition contains a ton of G1 Climax reviews, so it means that a number of over/under star ratings markets - that were published by the Kambi oddsmakers - are due to be settled.
In this post, I'll run through the results of all of the matches that had Over/Under lines and point out how they'll be graded by the bookies.
Meltzer's reviews resume with the B Block matches that took place on night twelve (August 12th). They go all the way through to yesterday's card, so this post will cover ten markets. As per usual, I'll have a table underneath the most recent results with a collection of all of the previous results.
Jon Moxley .vs. Toru Yano
Kambi published an Over/Under for the Moxley .vs. Yano match a few days before it occurred. The line was set at two-and-a-half stars.
Meltzer graded the bout a quarter of a star below Kambi's estimate.
As you can see, the winning selection 'Under 2.50 Stars' was available at 23/20 from July 28th right up to the morning of the show.
Tetsuya Naito .vs. Juice Robinson
Another match that took place on August 1st saw Tetsuya Naito pick up a win - and two points - against Juice Robinson. It was given three-and-a-half stars from the newsletter editor.
When it was first published on July 28th, Kambi had its line set at four stars, so - once again - the 'Under' turned out to be the correct call. It closed at the same price Kambi started off with: 13/10.
Hiroshi Tanahashi .vs. Kota Ibushi
Kambi had one O/U market available for night 13's round of matches. It was for Hiroshi Tanahashi .vs. Kota Ibushi.
Betting began in late June with the bookies setting the line at 4.75 Stars. The oddsmaker had the line spot on as Meltzer ended up rating the match four-and-three-quarters.
The 'Exactly 4.75 Stars' option was first priced at 21/10, but was cut to 41/20 by mid-July. It then rose up to 43/20 by July 20th, but was back at 21/10 a few days before it closed.
Jon Moxley .vs. Jay White
Jay White's important win over the then tournament leader Jon Moxley was given three-and-three-quarter stars in Dave Meltzer's review of night fourteen.
The 'Under' struck once again because Kambi set the line at 4.25 Stars when the market was published in June. The winning selection was lowered from 3/4 into 7/10 by July 15th, so it's possible that a punter or more backed the correct side.
Tetsuya Naito .vs. Shingo Takagi
Five stars were given to the main event of night fourteen. It saw Tetsuya Naito beat his Los Ingobernables de Japon stablemate, Shingo Takagi.
Kambi set the line at 4.50 stars, so the winning selection was obviously the 'Over'. It started off at EVS, when the market was first put up. The selection drifted out a month later and closed at 7/5.
Will Ospreay .vs. KENTA
Kambi released an Over/Under for the night fifteen meeting between Will Ospreay and KENTA a few days before the event. They set the line at four-and-a-half stars.
Dave Meltzer felt the match was four-and-a-half stars, so it was the 'Exactly 4,50 Stars' which turned out to be the winning selection.
As you can see, the 'Exactly' option was snipped from 9/4 into 11/5 a couple of days before the show. It remained at this price until the market was taken down.
It's once again worth pointing out that the 'Under' was also backed, so there may have been some who felt the line was too high. It was evidently just right.
Kota Ibushi .vs. Zack Sabre Jr
The second of three matches covered by Kambi for night fifteen was the one which saw Kota Ibushi get a win over Zack Sabre Junior.
Kambi set the line at 4.75 Stars when the market was first published on July 28th. The early sign of betting came a couple of days later when the 'Over' was cut from 13/10 into 6/5 and - as a result - the 'Exactly' and 'Under' drifted out. The latter was moved to 4/5 from 3/4.
Three days later, it was the 'Under' that moved in. It went from 4/5 into 7/10 and remained that way right up to the time it closed.
The reviewer gave the bout four-and-a-half stars, so this was another close one. The winner was the 'Under'.
Kazuchika Okada .vs. EVIL
The main event of night fifteen saw Kazuchika Okada pick up another two points. This time, it was against EVIL. The match was given four-and-three quarters in Meltzer's review.
As you can see in the table, Kambi had the line set at 4.50 when the market was first priced up on August 5th. It remained stationary from that moment right up to the day of the show. The eventual winner was 11/10.
Hirooki Goto .vs. Jon Moxley
Hirooki Goto's win over Jon Moxley, on night sixteen, was given three-and-a-half stars in the review.
Kambi's market was installed on August 5th with the line set at four stars, so this one fell under by half a star.
Juice Robinson .vs. Jay White
Kambi put up a market for Juice Robinson .vs. Jay White on August 5th with the line set at 3.75 Stars. The 'Under' was 9/10, the 'Over' was 21/20 and the 'Exactly 3.75 Stars' option was 21/10.
The winning selection turned out to be the 'Over'. It won by quarter of a star.
