How Kota Ibushi's G1 Climax Win Settled Some Of Kambi's Prop Markets

It has been over a week since Kota Ibushi was crowned the winner of this year's NJPW G1 Climax tournament, so I thought I'd have a look back at some of the many proposition and specials markets that Kambi had for the tourney.

In today's post, I'll look at those that were settled on the back of Ibushi's win.

Seeing as Ibushi is Japanese, the prop in which customers could have bet on there being a 'Japanese Tournament Winner' was settled with 'Yes' as the winning selection.

It was offered at 3/10 when the market was first published on June 23rd. The early action came in on the eventual winner but, as you can see in the table below, the 'No' dipped for a brief period between July 26th and July 28th before the 'Yes' began to decline once again.

The winning selection closed at 11/50 on August 9th.

This wasn't the only nationality prop that was available. As the tournament was in progress, customers were given the chance to bet on the final being contested between two Japanese wrestlers.

Published on August 6th, the prop wanted people to bet on the two block winners - who would meet in the August 11th final - both coming from Japan.

Both selections opened at 17/20 when the market came out. The betting went the way of the 'Yes' as it closed at 1/5. This is likely due to the consensus thinking that the final would be between Ibushi and Tetsuya Naito.

The other participant in last week's final - Jay White - is a New Zealander, so the winning selection was the 'No'. This option closed at 3/1 a day before he went on to secure his spot in the final by topping B Block.

On the topic of blocks, there was a market in which customers could place wagers on the winner coming from A Block.

The 'Yes' turned out to be the correct selection to back in this proposition. It was 3/4 when the market was first installed.

As you can see, there was a bit of a back-and-forth with the prices for both selections dipping here and there leading into - and during - the tournament.

It closed with the 'Yes' at 4/5 to the 'No' at 9/10.

This was not Ibushi's first G1, so a prop in which customers could place wagers on the winner being a tournament debutant was settled with the 'No'. It kicked off as a 1/8 outsider to the 'Yes' at 4/1.

The 'Yes' was down to 23/20 in late July. This was likely due to the good start made by KENTA and Jon Moxley. However, a week before the final, the 'Yes' was out to 13/4 and the eventual winner was 1/6.

Even though Ibushi was not a newcomer to the tourney, he was a newcomer to being an outright winner. Therefore, Kambi's market - which asked customers to bet whether or not they believed the tournament would be won by a former G1 Climax winner - was settled with 'No' as the correct choice.

The selection kicked off at 4/9, but rose to 7/5 within the first month.

As the tournament continued, the price for the 'No' declined, The last two prices I captured were from the day Ibushi secured A Block with the win over Kazuchika Okada. In the morning, 'No' had dropped from 5/4 into 11/10 then - after the match - it was down to EVS.

At the time, Testsuya Naito and Jay White were a little under a day away from determining the winner of B Block. The market could have been instantly settled once White became a finalist as he - just like with Ibushi at the time - hasn't won a G1.

On his way to making - and ultimately winning - the final, Kota Ibushi picked up a couple of losses. The first was to KENTA on night one and that was followed up - in the next round - against EVIL.

Due to Ibushi winning the tournament with a couple of blemishes to his run, the winning selection - in a market in which customers could have bet on the 'Winner to be Undefeated' - was the 'No'.

The winning selection was a 1/16 favourite when the market was first installed on June 23rd. As the tournament went on, Jon Moxley and Kazuchika Okada had a long run without suffering losses, so - by the time Okada's streak came to a close - the 'No' had moved out to 11/50 while the eventual losing 'Yes', after opening at 6/1, closed at 11/4.

G1 Climax 29 Prop Bet - Undefeated Wrestler To Win Tournament

There is another proposition market that was published for the tournament which will involve Kota Ibushi, but we won't know until early January how it'll be settled.

It asked the customers to bet whether the tournament winner will go on to become IWGP Heavyweight Champion at WrestleKingdom.

When it was last made available - on August 11th - the 'No' was a 13/20 favourite and the 'Yes' was 11/10. This was a flip from the opening 13/20 for 'Yes' and 11/10 for 'No'.

There are going to be more G1 props/specials posts over the coming days.
