Dave Meltzer's review of the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble PPV was published in the current edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and - now that the issue has been released - Kambi will settle the Over/Under star rating markets that were available to customers for the event.
All of the matches from last Sunday's card were covered by the bookmakers. Here's are the results.
Asuka and Charlotte Flair .vs. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler
The WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match, which saw Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler regain the straps from Asuka and Charlotte Flar, was given three stars by Dave Meltzer.
The market was published on Saturday. As you can see above, the line was set at three stars. Therefore, the bookmakers' estimate was correct.
It appears as though the consensus backed the match to be graded below the line because 'Under 3 Stars' was lowered from 19/20 into 4/5 by Sunday afternoon. As a result, the eventual winner was pushed out from 3/4 to 9/10 and remained there right up until the market closed.
Drew McIntyre .vs. Bill Goldberg
Kambi set a line of two stars for Drew McIntyre's WWE Championship defence against Bill Goldberg. Once again, the line was on the ball as Meltzer rated the bout two stars.
Going by the betting, it appears that the customers were on the wrong side once again as the price for '2 Stars or More' started out at 23/20 on January 17th and had drifted out to 7/4 by the evening of the show.
The losing selection started off as an 8/13 favourite and closed at 2/5.
Sasha Banks .vs. Carmella
A market for Sasha Banks' WWE Smackdown Women's Championship defence against Carmella was released on Saturday with the line set at three-and-a-half stars.
The option to wager on 'Under 3.5 Stars' was a 3/4 favourite over the 19/20 which was available to those who may have wanted to gamble on the match receiving three-and-a-half stars or higher.
Both selections remained at those prices throughout the weekend. The winning pick turned out to be the under because Meltzer graded the contest two-and-three-quarters.
Women's Royal Rumble Match
The women's Royal Rumble match scored three-and-three-quarters in the review. This was slightly above the line of three-and-a-half stars.
As you can see below, the Over/Under was released on January 9th with the eventual winner a 3/4 favourite over the 19/20 for 'Under 3.5 Stars'. By the following evening, there was a flip as the 'Under' fell into 7/10 and had tumbled into 13/20 by January 11th.
The losing selection dropped into 11/20 on the day of the event.
As for the eventual winner, it rose to EVENS on January 10th, was up to 11/10 a day later and was pushed up to 5/4 a few hours before the market's close.
Roman Reigns .vs. Kevin Owens
Four stars were awarded to Roman Reigns' triumph over Kevin Owens in a last man standing match. This result meant that the bout fell under Kambi's line of four-and-a-half stars.
Men's Royal Rumble Match
It was another case of Kambi's line falling exactly where Meltzer ended up grading the match as it pertains Sunday's main event - the men's Royal Rumble.
The oddsmakers set the line at four-and-a-quarter stars. Going by the price changes - which happened across the first couple of days of availability - the odds for the match to fall below the line were cut into 3/5 from 7/10 and were then dropped into 13/25.
The eventual winner began at EVENS, rose to 6/5 and was then up to 13/10 by the evening of January 11th.
No other adjustments were made right through to the start of the match at a little after 2:45AM GMT on Monday.
