Betting On Kambi's AEW Interim World Champion Market

With AEW World Champion - CM Punk - injured, an interim titleholder will be determined at the Forbidden Door show in three weeks from tonight.

The original plan for the event would have seen Punk defend his newly-won title against New Japan Pro Wrestling's Hiroshi Tanahashi. Instead, a representative of AEW will oppose either Tanahashi or Hirooki Goto in the June 26th decider.

Wednesday's episode of AEW Dynamite will kick off with a battle royal. The winner will go on to face Jon Moxley later in the show. Either Moxley or the battle royal winner will be AEW's wrestler in the Forbidden Door title match.

Tanahashi and Goto will wrestle each other at NJPW Dominion next Sunday. Whoever wins that one will become New Japan's representative in the Forbidden Door contest.

With all that explained, Kambi released a market yesterday which allows customers to gamble on who will become the Interim AEW World Champion.

When it was first installed, the belief was that Tanahashi would meet whoever comes out of Wednesday's episode of Dynamite. However, shortly after the market went live, AEW sent out a press release with the news that Hirooki Goto is now in the mix.

I looked forward to seeing the price Goto would be when he was added to the market. Considering it was either he or Tanahashi in New Japan's side of the 'AEW Interim World Championship Elimination Series', I thought he would be close to 10/1(ish). I looked over the market this morning noticing that Goto had been added.

I was surprised to see his price at 50/1.

Even though I still believe Tanahashi will be the NJPW wrestler in the title match at Forbidden Door, I thought I had to place a £1 bet on Goto. It might not make sense, but - in my opinion - the selection has some value at 50s because of how - as of right now - he is more in the mix than anyone else other than Tanahashi and Moxley.

This bet also gives me more of an incentive to watch Dominion live next week. I was initially planning to catch it later in the day because of its 6AM BST start.

Here is a look at all of the selections and how their prices have changed since yesterday.

As you'll see, Moxley started out as a 6/4 favourite and has now slid into 4/6.

Former AEW World Champion - Adam Page - has been reduced from 13/4 into 3/1. As has Bryan Danielson.

Another two selections to have shortened are those for Adam Cole (22/1 into 12/1) and Eddie Kingston (25/1 into 22/1).

Goto isn't the only selection I have backed this morning.

I thought there is value in Chris Jericho at 25/1 just in case there is a feeling that the interim champion should be somebody who has already held the AEW World Championship in the past.

Going by that notion - Moxley and Page should also stand out on this list of names, but I was attracted to the odds.
