ZSJ Becomes Sole G1 Climax Favourite Due To Price Increments

The oddsmakers from BetOnline have adjusted their market for the G1 Climax.

This move now sets Zack Sabre Jr. as the tournament favourite. Before today, he was in a three-way tie - at odds of +200 each - with David Finlay and Will Ospreay.

Finlay becomes a second-favourite. His odds have been pushed up to +250 while Ospreay moves into another three-way tie, this time in joint-third - at odds of +300 - with last year's winner, Kazuchika Okada, and the current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion - SANADA.

In a post published in the early hours of Monday morning, I noted that Will Ospreay was the first person I predicted to win this year's tournament.

Will Ospreay Losing Finalist in the G1 Climax 32

I jumped to the conclusion, that Ospreay was worth considering for this year's G1, immediately after he lost last year's final.

The cameras focused on the losing finalist's agony of defeat. I wondered whether the intention was to lay the groundwork for Ospreay redeeming himself a year later.

With that said - history, booking trends and other factors are not in Ospreay's favour.

As I also pointed out in the aforementioned post, these tournaments are rarely won by foreign talent. Especially in the G1 concept which dates back to 1991. The only gaijin to be booked to win a G1 Climax was Kenny Omega in 2016.

That might be worth considering when you see names like ZSJ and David Finlay in first and second place in the betting.

Here are all of the price changes I've collected since Sunday:

The market can be found alongside other betting opportunities for other wrestling companies on the BetOnline Website.
