The Undertaker Becomes Royal Rumble Favourite

The Undertaker is now a favourite to win the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble across most of the sports betting websites accepting wagers on the outright winner of the January battle royal.

Taker's drop can be attributed to last night's episode of WWE Smackdown where it was confirmed that John Cena would face AJ Styles for the WWE Championship on January 29th.

When I checked in last night, he was available at 16/1 from WilliamHill.com, Betfair.com and PaddyPower.com. SportingBet.com customers could have nabbed him at 18/1 while Ladbrokes.com clients could have picked up 20s.

As of right now, the odds are:

SportingBet: Unavailable
Betfair: 9/4
William Hill: 3/1
Ladbrokes: 3/1
Paddy Power: 7/2

As you can see, Paddy Power is offering the better price over on its WWE Betting Page.

Despite now being favoured to win the battle royal, it should be worth noting that Smackdown has its Elimination Chamber PPV a fortnight later. This could be the venue where The Undertaker becomes number one contender to what will more than likely be John Cena's crown.

A Raw roster member winning is, in my opinion, the likely outcome.

Odds correct as of 1pm GMT today.

  1. If Taker is recovering from hip surgery as reported, it's much more likely he wins rumble, where he can come out at number 30 and has limited bumps to take, than wrestle a full match the chamber in that steel structure 2 or 3 weeks later

    1. Going by that logic, he could be the last man out of a pod in the Elimination Chamber.

    2. In my opinion,

It makes more sense logically to have Jericho win the royal rumble, with Kevin Owens coming out afterwards celebrating with Jericho thinking Jericho is just gonna lay down and let Kevin win at Wrestlemania (as he says 'WE are the Universal champion')

Undertaker should hopefully be fully recovered by Elimination Chamber to be a surprise final entrant to it. (Or he can come out the Smackdown after Royal Rumble during John Cena's celebration to say he is entering the Elimination Chamber to go aftert he WWE title at Wrestlemania)

  2. Surely it's more prestigious to win the rumble in his final year than the chronic elimination chamber?

    1. If Cena wins the title at the Royal Rumble and AJ Styles gets the rematch for 2 weeks later, what is the winner of the Elimination Chamber match going to get if the Rumble winner is already from Smackdown?

  3. I wonder if he does win it should Cena defend the title at elimination chamber or should he be left out for the no 1 contender elimination chamber match.

    1. I assume it'll be done how it usually is.

If a Smackdown talent wins the Rumble match, the title will be the prize of the Elimination Chamber winner.

If it's a Raw Rumble winner, the Elimination Chamber will be a number one contender match and there will be a title match underneath.

  4. Have they even announced on screen that the chamber is going to be smackdown? or is it still just the venue's website?

Personally I think Jericho's involvement may be limited to the shark cage & he won't even be in the Rumble and I don't think Strowman is a big enough star to win the rumble or wrestle for the title at mania. And I think its made for 'Taker to win in his home state and final year. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion and thats what makes it an exciting rumble, lots of possibilities and most of the favourites have been available at great prices!

Also, why no love for Finn Balor anymore? He's my favourite if it is a RAW guy, setting up Roman vs Finn for universal title & KO vs Jericho in a non title match. Saying he won't be recovered could just be to put people off the scent..

    1. WWE announced it was a Smackdown show when the tickets went on sale, but it was reported weeks before that. Also, Fast Lane is confirmed as being a Raw show so there is no doubt that Elimination Chamber will be a Smackdown event.
I doubt Jericho is going to be limited in the shark cage. The device is there to make you think the person inside it is unable to interfere but he’ll find a way. However, it could go one of two ways. Either Jericho throws in a foreign object that assists Kevin Owens or it’ll backfire, help Roman Reigns and lead to Owens blaming Jericho for losing the title.
As for the ‘Why no love for Finn Balor anymore?’ question – please check some of the most recent Royal Rumble posts where I have had a list of four or five options to win the battle royal. I’ve had Balor down as a possible winner since the summer, but I have to go by what I see on WWE TV and the title picture is either going with Kevin Owens versus Chris Jericho or Roman Reigns versus Braun Strowman and that’s why Balor is third out of the three Raw wrestlers in the ranking.

  5. I don't mean Jericho is going to stay in the shark cage all night (although that would be a funny visual during the rumble match!) - I just think there is a good chance he will not even be in the 30 man Rumble & his role on the night will only be in the universal title match. Lets wait and see!

    1. Remember when Jerico came out and Codebreaked Owens and picked up the universal title? That is a sign of things to come!

I know it was all a 'ploy' to get owens the win but I still think Jericho wants that title on his shoulder.

    2. I didn't read it like that.

Jericho looking at the title was done to set up the swerve a few seconds later.

    1. Can't see them hyping Cena's return to come back and lose.

The 16th title win would only tie the record WWE claims is true, so they can milk the day the 'record' is broken at another event.
