A number of days ago, I had a look at how the prop bets for the main event of the WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view would have been settled by the two betting companies that had markets on what went down in the match. In today's post, I'm going to concentrate on the six-man tag team match that was on the undercard of the show.
The only betting firm that opened a book on the trios match between The Wyatt Family and The Shield was the 5Dimes Sportsbook & Casino. The sportsbook gave punters the option to choose whether Bray Wyatt pinned or submitted any of the Shield members as well as having a market where people could back Dean Ambrose being the person who ended up being pinned.
The earliest price I have for 'Bray Wyatt to pin or cause the submission' in the match is around -750 (1.13 EU, 2/15 UK) which is what he was at 5pm GMT on Friday 21st February. By the time the match started two days later, his role as favourite had him available at a price of -1700 (1.06 EU, 1/17 UK).
As we now know, Wyatt did make the winning pin so backers would have cashed in on that result. However, there was an interesting shift during Sunday.
The 'Any other result' that opposed a Bray Wyatt victory via pin or submission appears to have been wagered on in the hours leading up to the match. At 6am GMT on Sunday, 'Any other result' was an underdog +1000 (11.00 EU, 10/1) but, by 7:30pm GMT, it had been backed into +800 (9.00 EU, 8/1 UK). A price it stayed until the end.
The other wagering opportunity for this match added another question mark to the legitimacy of Dolphins1925 and his or her claim of having an 'inside source'.
During the bout, Dolphins tweeted out the following:
Wyatt Family/Shield is solid thus far, but I'm sure Ambrose won't be pleased when Bray Wyatt pins him shortly
Anybody who had been following the prop bets closely could have reached a conclusion that Ambrose would be the person taking the fall.
His odds were priced at -705 (1.14 EU, 20/41 UK) before the match after opening at around -260.
As we all know now, it was Roman Reigns who was pinned by Wyatt to end what was, in my opinion, the best match on the card.
The few bettors who had wagered on 'Any other result' would have cashed in as the price had gone from +180 to +435 (5.35 EU, 87/20 UK) in the betting period.
Odd taken from the betting board at 5Dimes.eu.
