Dolphins Said, The Results Read : Extreme Rules 2014 Edition

In this month's edition of 'Dolphins Said, The Results Read' I'll be looking at what the Twitter/Reddit user had sent out during the Extreme Rules 2014 pay-per-view.

As per usual, there is a strong case to suggest that he or she is looking at the betting lines at The 5Dimes Sportsbook.

'Spoiler' 1 : El Torito will defeat Hornswoggle

El Torito had been a favourite throughout the entire Extreme Rules betting period. The earliest odds I have is the -900 he was on May 2nd. He was -1500 (1/15 UK) before his match started.

'Spoiler' 2 : Cesaro wins the Triple Threat match

Once again, Cesaro was a favourite throughout. The lowest I saw him at was the -430 in the early stages. By the start of the pay-per-view his price was at -3000 (1/30).

'Spoiler' 3 : Alex Rusev will defeat R-Truth and Xavier Woods.

Not that much of a surprise considering Rusev is being pushed right now. He was -16000 (1/160 UK) for the majority of the time Extreme Rules lines were online.

'Spoiler' 4 : Bad News Barrett will defeat Big E. Langston

Barrett was the favourite from the start. He went from -530 and was -3600 (1/36 UK) right before the pay-per-view.

'Spoiler' 5 : Evolution will defeat The Shield.

This is where he came up short. Evolution opened as underdogs but were gradually placed into the role of favourites after the money came in on them. At the start of the pay-per-view - Triple H, Batista & Randy Orton were priced at around -1200 (1/12). As we now know, they did not win the match. The Shield were underdogs of +600 (7.00 EU, 6/1 UK) when 5Dimes closed the book as Extreme Rules was starting.

New lines were posted for the match as the show was ongoing. However, Evolution were still favoured at a price of -900 (1/9 UK).

Interestingly, wrestling inside websites were reporting that Batista was having meetings throughout the day. The reports indicate he was unhappy with being asked to wrestle, and ultimately lose, to Daniel Bryan at next month's Payback event and was taking an earlier hiatus from the company than had originally been planned.

It's worth mentioning this situation as it would have played into the finish of the match. If Batista's reluctance to remain beyond this weekend was the story going around backstage on Sunday, the person alleged to be a leak would not have given out Evolution as the winners as the result would have been dependent on Batista moving forward.

Still - the betting lines had Evolution as winners, so that's what Dolphins1925 gave out.

'Spoiler' 6 : Bray Wyatt will defeat John Cena

Wyatt was -3000 (1/30 UK) before the show.

'Spoiler' 7 : Paige will defeat Tamina Snuka

Paige was -3000 (1/30 UK) as the PPV was about to start.

'Spoiler' 8 : Daniel Bryan will defeat Kane

Bryan was -1500 (1/15 UK) at 1am BST. He was also a favourite of -350 (2/7 UK) in the new betting line right before his match started.

So, as these examples prove -Dolphins1925 once again went with the betting favourites for every match.

  1. After seeing some of these odds/matches I am starting to question if there actually is 'smart money' being put on or is it just easy to predict who is going to win.....I mean except evolution/shield the rest was predictable but even if there was smart money i'm sure they would have known evolution would lose and also the fact that bryan odds shrunk astonishingly makes me wonder if there actually is the so called smart money being put on or is it people just putting money on the favs??? what do you think David???

    1. As mentioned above, the story coming out over Extreme Rules weekend was that Batista was having meetings as they were trying to get him to stay on.

They would have avoided that match as the situation called for it to be ignored.

As for the Bryan/Kane odds - the underdog bettors that had wagered on Kane and Tamina Snuka on the Friday/Saturday threw the odds out of whack there before the late Sunday money came in.

  2. Ok maybe I understand the evolution/shield match but the tamina/paige odds increased again when the so called 'smart money' was coming in but as for the bryan/kane match the odds did not move from -1500 even when the smart money was coming in...if that was the case insiders would have put the money on bryan but it didnt happen and then just before the match bryan odds became very close....and one last thing when the odds for bryan became -350 on 5Dimes you would have expected smart money to go on but obviously it didnt because thats how the odds closed before the match!!

    1. Bryan's odds didn't move from -1500 to -350.

The -350 was the result of the book reopening betting with a fresh set of odds after having enough action on either side before closing the book at the start of the PPV.

With that said, you do have a point about the -350 not moving.
