I have just a look over Paddy Power's Royal Rumble 'In-Ring Appearance' market for the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble match and have made a few notes.
Jerry Lawler Added
Jerry Lawler is new addition to the market. His current price is 2/1. WWE has confirmed that Lawler will commentate on the match. I do not think he has a chance of being in it, however, WWE hasn't allowed Lawler to wrestle since his heart attack during a broadcast of Monday Night Raw a few years ago. What I can see happening is Lawler distracting Dolph Ziggler as retribution for this week's episode of Smackdown when Ziggler kicked Lawler during the King's Court.
Hacksaw Now 2/1
'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan's odds have been halved from 2/1. Every year around this time, his name pops up as he is a the first-ever Royal Rumble winner. I always tend to have a bet on him, but haven't done so this year. As it's the thirtieth Rumble, it would not surprise me to see him in. I've been writing that 'It wouldn't surprise me if he's an entrant' since 2014.
Kenny Omega Drifts
Kenny Omega has drifted out from EVENS to 5/2. I have written a lot about Omega's contract. I was under the impression that his deal with New Japan was set to end in January 2018 as I could have sworn I remembered reading that NJPW had signed him to a two-year deal in 2016 after AJ Styles, Gallows, Anderson and Shinsuke Nakamura departed almost at the same time. Anyway, it turns out that I may have been incorrect - his deal is apparently up on January 31st. Whichever way you look at it, he will be unable to work the Rumble on the 29th.
Kurt Angle's Odds Continue Decline
On Tuesday, following the announcement that Kurt Angle will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, I looked at the odds and noticed his price to be a Royal Rumble participant had started to come in. This has continued as it has now moved from 8/13 to 1/2. I think the first glimpse we'll get of Kurt Angle will be at the Hall of Fame ceremony.
JBL's odds drop
John 'Bradshaw' Layfield's price has been snipped from 5/1 into 2/1. I expect a good reason behind this interest is because he will not be calling the match. Corey Graves, Michael Cole and the already mentioned Jerry Lawler will be presenting this part of the evening. Add in the fact that the event is emanating from JBL's home state of Texas. It would not surprise me at all to see him enter. I won't be wagering on it, though.
