More About The Mayweather/McGregor PPV Number Market

The estimated early pay-per-view numbers for last weekend's super fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have started to be reported by the US media.

Based on the figures I've read, it seems to be - as of right now - in the 'mid-to-high four million' range.

Executive vice president of Showtime, Stephen Espinoza, is reported as saying 'if we don't reach the record, we're going to be very, very close.'

The aforementioned record was set on May 2nd 2015 when Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquaio in what was one of the most eagerly anticipated fights in history. 4.6 Million purchased that fight.

With the record set at 4.6 Million, the Bovada Sportsbook installed an over/under market - ahead of last weekend's fight - where customers could bet on the buyrate exceeding, or being lower than, the number from two years ago.

The line was set at 4.99 Million. When I wrote about it in June, both Under and Over were at -120 pick 'em.

Based on how things are being worded by Showtime, I suspect it won't end up in favour of the 'Over'. I even get the feeling it won't top the Mayweather/Pacquaio number, but we'll see.
