Bovada Expecting Super Bowl Levels Of Interest In McGregor/Mayweather Betting

The Bovada Sportsbook has released a plethora of prop and specials markets for the August 26th fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr in what the company believes will result in Super Bowl levels of interest.

As of the time of writing, the sportsbook's customers can wager on a handful of specials that you would find elsewhere like total rounds and method of victory. However, there is a prop on the board that has caught my attention.

The sportsbook has an Over/Under where clients can bet on how many buys the fight will get. The line is set at 4.99 Million with the 'Over' and 'Under' options both set at -120 as of the time of writing.

This interests me because the last mainstream bout that generated a lot of interest after being greatly-anticipated for years was the May 2nd 2015 'Fight of the Century' which saw Mayweather defeat Manny Pacquiao.

4.6 Million people purchased that fight. Many thought that the record would stand for many years, but the 26th August fight has every chance of topping it if sportsbook interest in the fight is anything to go by.

I was surprised to hear that Bovada has been taking a lot of action on McGregor.

The sportsbook published odds for the fight in November of last year. The market opened with McGregor a 10/1 (+1,000 US) underdog, but he was backed from the off. He is now down to 4/1.

Bovada sportsbook manager, Kevin Bradley, is anticpating more to come in on McGregor and believes that a McGregor victory on August 26th will be a huge liability for the book based on how many tickets customers have on the Irishman.

'The overall money and wagers on this may rival the Super Bowl, if not bigger, as we expect anyone and everyone to have a bet on it in some capacity,' he announced.

If the fight really does generate Super Bowl level interest, I strongly believe that Pacquiao .vs. Mayweather number is beaten.

  1. Surely there's just no way mcgregor will win. Mayweather will fight defensively. He wont risk his unbeaten record by going after mcgregor who has KOd people after 1 punch.

    1. He isn't going to win. It's a pro versus an amateur. IF THAT.

    2. It's going to be a rather boring match to watch. You'd hope they proper go at it, but they won't.

Crazy how much money they will get aswell...
